Where do I begin. I been influenced by pretty much everything I've ever heard. Here's a few: Ryan Adams, Elliot Smith, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, The Eagles, Steve Earle, Powderfinger, David Gray, Shawn Colvin, Crowded House, The Beatles, The Strokes etc
Over the last few years Syd Young has been busy writing songs and documenting them in his small home studio. "It just never really occurred to me to play them to anyone". When he finally made the decision to record them, he played them to some people and they quickly hooked him up with well respected musician producers, Matt Fell and Sam Hawksley, who took on the project and quickly and efficiently got it onto disc. THe result is Syd's debut album 'Dirty Life' recorded intwo main sessions. 'Dirty Life' will soon be available for purchase.
Syd grew up in a musical family in Sydney, Australia and has always played guitar and written songs. After graduating from the Sydney Conservatoruim of Music, Syd played for his supper at gigs both locally and internationally, and having spent most of his life in Sydney, he now resides on the Gold Coast.
Syd's debut album 'Dirty Life' showcases the quality of his songwriting and distinctive voice. "This particular batch of songs came together pretty quickly. After recording the first session with Matt and Sam, I went home and wrote about another 12 songs which we narrowed down to six. There are a few songs about people I know such as 'State of Grace', 'Dirty Life', and 'Written all over you', and several about my experiences and sense of world weariness at the time such as 'Invisible', 'Nowhere to go now', and 'Ridicule'. There are also a couple of songs about relationships such as 'Tuesday' and 'Pull off my skin'. IT has certainly taken me a while to get this album released but it's good to have it done and let some people hear it."
Syd is currently working on a new album that he hopes to have out by the end of 2007.
