Sylvain Marcotte is now recognized as an exceptional musician. Musical Director of the huge multimedia show “Légendes Fantastiques” for now 10 years, multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger, Sylvain also pursues an pianist career. On his way, he even had the opportunity to play with such famous musicians as Paul Brochu, Michel Cusson, André Leroux, Michel Donato and Paul Wertico, ex Pat Metheny Group drummer.
In 1988, Sylvain forms Triaz, a jazz- fusion group, with whom he records his first album, Phase. In 1989, Triaz begins a one and a half year tour through Quebec, France and Belgium. After this long tour, Sylvain releases four solo albums of wich Inspiration (1997) and These Days of Wine and Roses (1999). In 2001 and 2004, Sylvain records Melodification and Over the Rainbow with his trio, joining together drummer Matthias von Imhoff, from Switzerland, and bass player Jean-Bertrand Carbou, from France. In 2001, Sylvain also receives the performing arts price from the Quebec Communications and Culture Council.
In 2005, Sylvain leaves Quebec for Shanghai, in China, to take part of the project Era – Intersection of Times of the Shanghai Circus World. There, with Michel Cusson, he contributes to compose and to arrange the music of this huge production. In 2006, The Mondial des Cultures (international culture festival) of Drummondville even made a tribute for him for the quality of his work. The sensitivity of Sylvain and his creativity will bring him always further, in roads where nobody went before.
At the same time, he had produced, composed and arranged his own multimedia shows called “Tableaux de voyages” (Trip scenes), which had put on the same scene more than 20 artists. Currently, Sylvain Marcotte is at a highlight point of his career. Also working with singers, Sylvain writes music without any limits, coming back to the roots! More than ever creative, he seems to have found his own way to do music. An artist who worth discovering, Sylvain Marcotte allows you not only to love his music, but also to live it.
Compositeur, multi-instrumentiste, arrangeur et directeur musical du méga spectacle multimédia Légendes Fantastiques depuis plus de 10 ans Sylvain Marcotte poursuit parallèlement une importante carrière de pianiste. S’étant produit avec des noms tels que Michel Cusson, Paul Brochu, André Leroux, Michel Donato ainsi que Paul Wertico, ancien batteur du Pat Metheny Group, Sylvain fait désormais partie des grands de la musique.
En 1988, Sylvain fonde la formation de jazz-fusion Triaz, avec qui il enregistre l’album Phase. En 1989, Triaz part en tournée à travers tout le Québec ainsi qu’en France et en Belgique pendant un an et demi. En 2001, il reçoit le prix Arts de la Scène du Conseil de la culture et des communications Mauricie – Centre du Québec. S’en suit, en avril 2001, l’enregistrement d’un troisième album, Melodification, cette fois-ci devant public. Le batteur suisse Matthias von Imhoff et le contrebassiste français Jean-Bertrand Carbou se joignent alors à Sylvain pour former le Trio Sylvain Marcotte. Ils répètent d’ailleurs l’expérience du trio en mai 2004 pour l’album Over the Rainbow, disque aux sonorités et ambiances plus électro-acoustiques.
En 2005, Sylvain s’envole pour Shanghai, en Chine, pour prendre part au projet Era – Intersection of Times du Shanghai Circus World. Il y travaille en tant que bras droit de Michel Cusson à titre d’arrangeur et de compositeur pour la musique du spectacle. En 2006, il est honoré aux Mondial des Cultures de Drummondville pour la qualité de son travail. Toujours en 2006, il produit arrange et compose la musique d’un spectacle multimédia d’envergure intitulé Tableaux de Voyages réunissant plus de vingt musiciens.
Sylvain Marcotte est présentement à un point culminant de sa carrière. Revenant aux sources, Sylvain travaille aussi avec plusieurs chanteurs, il écrit donc de la musique dans divers styles sans s’imposer de limites. Plus que jamais créatif, il pétille d’idées et de projets des plus inusités. Sa sensibilité et sa créativité inépuisables auront tôt fait de le propulser ailleurs, dans des terrains jusqu’ici inexplorés. Sylvain Marcotte, un artiste à découvrir, une musique à vivre…
