Sylvia Hallett works both as a composer and as an improviser.
Plays several instruments, but mainly violin, accordion and bowed bicycle wheel at the moment. Solo live gigs involve playing instruments with loops, delays and pitchshifting electronics.
She has played in many international festivals, working with, among others, Lol Coxhill, Maggie Nicols, Phil Minton, Evan Parker, Accordions Go Crazy, British Summer Time Ends, Arc string trio, The London Improvisers Orchestra, the London Hardingfelelag and LaXula. She also performs solo, (did a solo tour of Italy), and in duo with Clive Bell.
She has collaborated with the dancer/choreographers Miranda Tufnell and Emilyn Claid, the live art puppeteers DooCot, and Wonderful Beast. She has performed in and musically directed the Young Vic's "Grimm Tales", and The Royal Shakespeare Company's productions of "Comedy of Errors" , "Tales from Ovid" and "Canterbury Tales". She has written music for numerous BBC Radio plays.
Sylvia has released three solo CDs: two on the MASH label, and her 3rd solo release, White Fog on the EMANEM label features the bowed bicycle wheel.
