"Sym-Choon know how to tear up a stage as well as any of the rock greats" - The Australian Times
.
Sym-Choon came into being when Jason Sym-Choon (vocals/guitar) moved to the UK from Adelaide, South Australia in late 2003 and hooked up with south London brothers Gareth Flegg (guitar) and Matt Flegg (bass and vocals) and Guildford-based drummer Dan Tucker to develop a repertoire of original rock songs and rehearse for a powerful, memorable live show. In November 2004, the band made its live debut at Concorde 2 in Brighton to a great response and the boys have continued to develop their reputation as a live act to watch.
“We’re kind of old school but with a modern sound”, the band explains when asked who they sound like. “We love the classic British rock bands like The Who, Led Zep and The Police but we also like that big modern sound of the Foo Fighters, The Killers and stuff like that.”
The band’s no bullshit sound and attitude is typical of the bands that Jason grew up with on the Aussie hard rock band scene too, with influences such as Cold Chisel, Rose Tattoo and of course AC/DC shining through. All members of the band now contribute to the song writing process and the result is an irresistible combination of hummable choruses and big riffs. Lyrically, the band deals with real people and places around them – larrikins from the music scene, shady blokes they’ve met in the pub, girls who’ve had one drink too many and other assorted characters.
Sym-Choon’s broad appeal is the most endearing thing about the band – they attract rockers, metalheads and the man in the street in equal measure. There’s something for anyone who appreciates great songwriting and an energetic live show.
Highlights to date include sold out gigs at Camden Underworld and Half Moon Putney as well as a spot on the second stage at Guilfest. Now, Sym-Choon is looking forward to reaching out to more people than ever before. Have a look and a listen and get in touch if you’d like to know more.
