Sarah held the remote control and pressed play. As the computer simulation came on the screen, she narrated it for James. “As you can see, with our chemical analysis of Ms. Alexander’s DNA, she can provide the stabilizer needed for the suits.”

She walked across the conference room, allowing everybody seated at the table to watch the simulation on screen. “As you can see, anybody wearing this suit can mimic Ms. Alexander’s molecular ability. However, we haven’t been able to keep the effects of the suit long term. The most it lasts is twelve hours before it needs a new deposit of the serum infused with her DNA.”

The simulated man on screen stopped shifting into water and remained motionless in the suit. “Now we’ve tried over the years to find Ms. Alexander and bring her into custody, however the young woman constantly alludes us. I won’t lie, she’s smart, she’s dangerous, and she can’t be caught. Not only that, she has powerful allies as well, in my opinion she would make a better ally than an enemy. If we can bring her over to our side, make her want to work with us, she’d be able to provide us with a weekly blood sample. We would have to write it into her contract, and also make it worth her while.”

“What we’ve learned about the young woman is that she’s reckless, and craves excitement, as an agent, we can give her that. As well as an ample paycheck. I do foresee it being difficult to bring her over to our side, so we have to make her an offer she can’t refuse. If we have to blackmail her, than we should not hesitate to take that option.”

Sarah turned and rested her eyes on James.

General Patton stood up, “Alright, I’m going to approve this operation, and if it goes down the tube,” he gazed at them, “you’re both being held responsible for it.”

Sarah watched the General leave the conference room before she turned to James. “This is her address and last location,” she said as she slid a file across the table at him. “She’s living in New York, down in So-ho and she frequents a bar called The Green Room.”

“Here’s the deal,” Cassie delicately placed her hands on the scared oak table. “We have rules in this game,” she said holding the gaze of each man seated round the table for a few seconds before she continued to speak. “And rules are not meant to be broken, unless I say so,” one corner of her mouth turned up into a tiny smile before she resumed her serious demeanor.

“What kind of rules?” Marshall asked exhaling a cloud of smoke, which hung heavy over the table.

“The kinds of rule that say you need to hand me one of those right now if you want me to continue,” Cassie said lifting her hand. She was an occasional smoker and today she felt like being occasional. Marshall handed her a cigarette, and Clyde, the man seated to her left offered her a light. “Thank you.” She inhaled, exhaled and resumed speaking.

“This is how it’s going to work. Marshall,” she pointed towards the three shots of tequila in front of him, “I can’t touch your glasses,” she then pointed towards the three pints of beer in front of her, “You can’t touch my glasses. So we can’t touch each other glasses, got it? And you can’t start to drink your shots until my first glass hits the table. Does that sound easy enough?”

The men seated around the table exchanged looks as the laughed Cassie. Nobody could drink two full glasses of beer before a man could drink three shots of tequila. “That sounds fine to me,” Marshall said.

Cassie stood up slightly extending her hand across the table, “So we have a deal and you understand the rules right?”

“Of course,” Marshall said shaking her hand and confirming the bet.

“All right everybody, place your bets!” Cassie called out.

Each of the men seated around pulled out a ten-dollar bill and tossed it on the table. A few curious patrons walked over to bet and observe. Soon Cassie was surrounded by a group of male and a few females curious to see how the young girl can out drink Marshall, frat boy and asshole extraordinaire, in less than ten seconds.

Cassie wrapped her fingers around the glass and held it to her lips. “Cheers,” she said winking before she drained the glass of beer. She hated beer, it tasted how she would imagine watered down piss to taste like. As soon as her glass hit the table Marshall immediately grabbed his first shot, tipped his head back and drank it. While in the middle of the second shot, Cassie lifted her empty glass and placed it over one of his full shots of tequila. By the time Marshall set the second glass down on the table, all he could do was stare dumbfounded at the empty glass sitting upside-down and over his last full shot of tequila.

For a few seconds, the only sound was the evening news blaring from the television hanging over the bar before the crowd started to cheer.

“Marshall, you dumb bastard, how could you fall for that?”

“Ah Marshal looks like you finally met your match!”

    “Don’t touch the glass!”

Cassie walked her fingers across the table and scooped up the money. She didn’t even count it, she just folded it and nestled it down the front of her shirt, “Marshall, it’s been a pleasure,” she said standing up as she grabbed a full glass of beer and walked over to sit at an empty table. Kicking her feet up, she swung her head towards the television hanging behind the bar as she contemplated what she would do for the evening.
