Termination's Blurbs |
About me:
Termination has been canceled indefinitely.
After an eleven month run of great events with an absolutely fantastic community of friends, we have regretfully reached a decision to cancel Termination indefinitely.
Several factors have lead me to make this decision. Over the course of our time at The Stone Church there have been some behind the scenes issues that were only resolved after a change of management that was made last week. I feel that Ray, the new manager, will do an excellent job of taking care of many of the problems that we've had to deal with.
So why are we parting ways, then? In talking with Ray a bigger issue has come up, which is the state of The Church's floor and windows. As a historic landmark it's a priority that the building be preserved as much as possible, and over the years the floor has taken a beating. It was my decision that holding an event with forty to fifty rivetheads, clad in combat boots and aggressively stomping away at 140 beats per minute probably wouldn't help the situation any.
I'd like to stress that the venue did NOT ask us to leave and that this was an amicable decision reached between us. I know how things work in our scene and, more generally, on the internet so let's get the facts out there from the start. There are still a lot of great events at The Church and I encourage anyone who wants to support Brattleboro's creative community to continue to attend them.
It would be easy for me to leave it at that, but you all know my penchant for being painfully honest. I have my own reasons for needing to call off Termination. Since I moved to Boston it's become increasingly difficult for me to support an event so far away, and I feel I need to pull back a bit and focus my energies closer to home. I'm very aware that there's blood on both sides of this double-edged sword. On the one hand keeping this event going has become untenable for me, but on the other hand this was the best way I could think of to keep in touch with so many of the folks who live in that little nook of the world that I still think of as "home."
I guess I'll close with a reminder that all of the good times that we had were a collaboration, a series of amazing events that never would have happened had you all not come out, supported us and given us your time and friendship. I'm still pretty damned proud of what we did, and you should be too.
I'm sure I'll see a great many of you out at the other clubs here in the northeast, and for you Vermonters...don't think you got rid of me so easily. I'm sure I can come up with plenty of excuses to invade The Green Mountain State, many of which will involve crashing on your couches at some point or another.
