I am interested in being present. I want to see more of the world.
This peice is with Troupe Joweh! out of Santa Rosa, Ca. I conceptualized the dance and helped to choreograph...we placed 2nd with it at the Breakthrough Fusion Dance Competition in San Francisco in January 09.
Music
I want to learn how to play the violin and the theramin...Sometimes I dream that I was born earlier in England somewhere where I was able to witness the whole glam and punk scene be born...I decided last year on my birthday that I actually did indeed stop despising the Beatles..but I'm still not so into their poppy stuff...I could list bands that I'm into but I'm not gonna. I have recently joined the band BROTHERS HORSE...I am one of two spark and bow and arrow wielding dancers in the group. The below video is not that band, however, I wear toe shoes in this piece so you should watch it.
Movies
so, so many movies...and so little time for me to watch them. I am an avid fan, although I am afraid that if I start listing that I will forget to acknowledge ones I love. Ok, I'll try.
American Beauty.
Be Kind, Rewind.
Freaks.
Sweeny Todd...GREAT costumes!!
Idiocracy.
Eternal Sunshine.
Donnie Darko.
Velvet Goldmine.
Hellboy 2 had some outstanding creatures!
all things David Lynch and Will Farrell.
Crash.
Television
don't watch much...but I love Carnivale...and damn Adult Swim for making me a disciple of Mr. Pants
Books
I love em.
Heroes
people who stand up for and follow through with what they believe in. people who follow their dreams and make their lives glorious...
I'm focusing on the Bellydancing right now...but I can rock Hip Hop, Modern, Jazz, Fire and Burlesque as well...and end up mixing it all together anyway.
About me: ¨Movement never lies¨-Martha Grahm.
"...the floorboards shake from the foot stomping and i dance my way through swirling skirts to be avalanched by hugs while hobo burlesque happens on stage with live accordion soundtrack and a darn good use of some cans of beans... "...observation of Jodi and JD as Room For Cream at the Hubba Hubba Revue/Baxtalo Drom DNA debut!
I dance. Some say that I am "Willits' exiled dancing diva". I am much more than my dancer persona, but that persona also makes me who I am. I am both ridiculous and completely straightforward.
I train in, teach and perform many different styles of movement. I am currently focusing on performing and stretching the boundaries of what makes up the art form of Middle Eastern dance...using traditional techniques with my own life experiences to create a performance that is unique, and one that keeps all involved engaged for the entire performance. I also have training in Ballet and Laban/Bartinieff movement fundamentals, where I am reminding my body on how to move more purely in dance and throughout life; I have studied many other dance forms as well, namely Contemporary Modern, Hip Hop, Jazz and musical theatre. I make most of my own costumes, and try to use recycled materials as much as possible. I was owner and director of Long Valley Dance Studio for a few years in Northern California, and still teach on occasion, but my passion lies in performing whenever I can, be it solo, with different productions, or with whomever is there and is willing to share their fabulousness...I'm always ready to take on new performance experiences and to meet entertainers...well, anyone really...who does what they do for no other reason but because they feel the love. All that being said...I have a lot more to learn and look forward to doing so. I try not to take life too seriously and know that it's cause for great inspiration, be it a tense situation or a joyous celebration...its what you do with that muse is what matters.
I can and have done solo dance performances in a variety of styles and lengths, from 2 minutes to 30. I am currently performing with bellydance troupe Joweh!, the Lemon Lime Lights, the band voted best in Sonoma County for 2007, and with JD Limelight as the duo (and sometimes trio or quartet), Room For Cream...live music and dance? You can't go wrong.
I placed as first runner up in the Double Crown Bellydance Competition's Scarab category on June 20, 2008...here are the judges comments on my hobo peice that won the second place title..."That's the best sword dance on bean cans that I've seen. Super creative costume change. Totally awesome performance." "Very Entertaining. Perfect timing. Great invention changing on stage...Dance movements well timed with music. Excellent finish. Great show. Good job. Costuming worked for your show."
heres some visual of my stuff...
I am available for private classes and performances! I have a home studio that I will soon be holding class out of...email me for more info!!
