Portland, OR-based TAARKA features the husband and wife team of classically-trained renegade violin wizardess Enion Pelta-TIller and musical polyglot and virtuosic mandolinist/composer David Tiller. Plus a rotating cast of bass and percussion.
The bandleaders and composers, David and Enion Tiller, are also the lead instrumental team of THAMUSEMEANT, a well-traveled, progressive, "anti-folk" band which has spent much time in the mountainous spine of the U.S. as well as in the western and northwestern regions where TAARKA has put in much legwork.
Praise for the new TAARKA:
"The new incarnation of Taarka, the Portland-based, self-described "seismic gypsy hypno-jazz" group, plays David Tiller and Enion Pelta-Tiller"s eclectic compositions. The sound, heavy on creative percussion, draws from a dizzying array of folk music traditions, including Celtic, bluegrass, Indian music, and jazz. Basically, Taarka"s music is as apt to mesmerize as it is to prompt unadulterated dancefloor-wrecking boogieing."
-The Source (bend, or)
TAARKA, whose songs range from politically inspired, middle-eastern and Balkan flavored opuses in 9 and 11 to sleazy funk about a night at the club, has made a powerful impression on the West Coast Touring circuit over the last 3 years with their beautiful and intricately woven melodies and danceable grooves. Gifted composers and improvisers, Tiller, Pelta-Tiller and Flores draw on a variety of influences - jazz and funk, Afro-Cuban, gypsy and klezmer, celtic, middle-eastern, bluegrass and classical music to create a uniquely complex yet accessible sound they call "Seismic Gypsy Hypno-Jazz." The introduction of Dale Largent to the TAARKA sound rounds out the compositions with authenticity and creativity. Together they build a beautiful sound that moves and grooves. The band"s new rhythm section has opened up the sound and the possibilities, while remaining faithful to the music and vibe fans have come to love over the past 3 years.
TAARKA and its lead composers have put together 3 cds representing the different faces of the group. 2002's "TAARKA Live in the Studio", the acoustic duo album of 2003, "Man Chasing Woman around Table" and the polished "Even Odd Bird" (2004).
TAARKA and its members have shared stages with Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, John Fishman, members of String Cheese Incident, Keller Williams, David Grisman, Darol Anger, Danny Barnes, Steve Kimock, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band and Garaj Mahal, to name a few, and has performed to great response at numerous West Coast Festivals including the High Sierra Music Festival, Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, and the Oregon Country Fair.

My children all live in Humboldt and my oldest son's band plays at Muddy's Hot Cup in Arcata. Saw you're going to be there, you should get in touch with him....I'll send you his profile. His band is Moo-Got-2 and he's one of my "friends".
Thanks again, have a good week! Love and solidarity, Pam.
Just stopping by to say hello! We are hoping to catch you at the Tractor! Thanks so much, once again, for playing at our wedding! You helped make it such a memorable occasion (I'm sure the record heat helped too!).
