THREE IMAGINARY GIRLS REVIEW, 2003}
Seattle's Tableland know the beauty of paying attention to detail. Their self-released full-length "Tremulous Elemental" (no label) soothes like aloe on sunburn, just in time for long June days. Check out a highlight like "Bested:" slow looped jazz drums under day-dreamy guitar that curls up with hazy trumpet and perking electronics. A place for everything, and everything in its place. Once you make all the right choices, it's easy to bliss out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------STRANGER REVIEW, 2002}
You know, the beach-friendly vapidity and general bonhomie of summer music is just fine for the warmer months, but after a while I find myself sun-scorched and empty-headed, with sand in all the wrong places. Just in time, then, come the lush and moody melodies of Tableland. The songs on the Seattle band's debut disc, Tremulous Elemental, are spiraling and sprawling, near-orchestral in their intricate layering (think Aloha, Mogwai, a souped-down Joan of Arc), and the perfect accompaniment for the quivering trees and mellow gray skies of a Seattle September. Throw out your tank tops and take up your secondhand Pendleton sweaters! Fall has arrived, and the intelligent elementals of Tableland are here to remind you why that's a good thing. Tableland, Tremulous Elemental (Self Released)
This Seattle-based trio serves up infectious instrumental alt-rock that weaves shimmering tapestries of ambient sound. Tremulous Elemental puts the listener into a mesmerizing trance with its intricate melodies and raw, volatile power. Two amazing tracks include “South Trail” and “The Hand Holding Tree (Subpilly),” both of which give a taste of the bands range with their soft-spoken beauty and climactic energy. Tableland truly defy the standard classification and make music on their terms without regret. Tremulous Elemental is a must have record. If you dig on Mogwai, Bowery Electric and the like, this definitely warrants a listen. Review By Jacob Charles Dietz, 60 Cycle Hum Magazine
