Hi there and thanks for stopping by my page! My name is Roger Tackett and I'm running for the Ohio State Senate in the 10th District that is made up of Greene, Clark, and Madison counties.
Just to share a little background information on me, I was born in southern Ohio in Scioto County. I graduated from Portsmouth West High School and then worked for awhile as a construction worker and member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18.
In 1966, I entered the United States Marine Corps and was subsequently wounded while in Vietnam. I am proud to have served and honored to have received the Purple Heart.
From there, I went on to graduate from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. After college, I ran for public office to become active in the local government hoping to help change lives and create progress for my community. I was elected to the Clark County Commission and have been elected by the citizens of Clark County to that office seven times. I am currently the President of the Board of County Commissioners for Clark County, Ohio.
Given my history and experience, I am heavily involved in community, environmenal, and Veterans' Affairs. Twice I have been named Ohio's Outstanding Disabled American Veteran. In 1984, Ohio Governor Richard Celeste appointed me as his Administrative Assistant for the Governor's Office of Veterans Affairs. In that capacity, I assisted over 2000 veterans in Ohio with obtaining and retaining employment. As a Vietnam veteran, I have worked particularly hard to obtain funding for the VA Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and to fund local Memorial Day services.
I have been Chairman of the United Way Public and Civic Divisions for Clark County, served on the Miami Valley Council on Aging, the Clark County Council on Aging, as the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for Air Quality for the Miami Valley, and as the Chairman of the Energy and Environment Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties. I am presently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio and have recently been elected to the Board of Trustees for the National Association of Counties. For contributions to my community, I was awarded the "No Greater Love" Award from 7th District Congressman Clarence J. Brown.
Throughout my years of community service, I've been a driving force in growing our region's economy and bringing jobs to the area. I have fought for change and have served as a strong voice and representative of the working class, the disabled, seniors, and our nation's veterans.
I value the importance of family and have been married to my wife Martha for 39 years. We have two children, Michele and Roger Jr.
In my spare time, I enjoy fishing, travel, football, and watching the Cincinnati Reds! I like good ol' fashioned bologna sandwiches, rippled potato chips, and M & Ms (all much to the chagrin of my wife and family that encourage me to eat healthy).
Thanks so much for taking the time to drop by. We'll be updating this site constantly as the campaign progresses. So, please check back frequently. If you're interested in volunteering or helping in any way, feel free to send me a message.
