-T-TOWN MMA CLASS CIRICULUM AND CLASS DISCRIPTIONS-
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
During BJJ class you will learn to develop your submission game the proper way, by transitioning into good positions, utilizing proper technique, a good base and the necessary leverage, into the submission realm! Through learning a proper offense you also develop defensive tactics, and vice versa. Competency in BJJ keeps your submissions, transitions & positions smooth and proper! This class is based on the scientific kinetic principals, of BJJ, developed by the world famous Gracie family and continuously evolving daily throughout the world! An integral part of the T-Town MMA program, because it is the single best & fastest way to properly develop your submission game, the class is open to those who would like to study the art of Jiu Jitsu alone! Awesome class for the competitive athlete, hobbyist or someone looking for a great self defense system!
Kickboxing
Learn striking properly by using proper footwork, defense, movement, combinations, etc. In this class you will learn a hybrid of boxing & Muay Thai styles that are very effective in the ring or in a self defense situation. While part of the T-Town MMA curriculum, this class can be taken by itself! Whether you want to work on your fitness or become a dangerous striker, this class is great!
Submission Wrestling
Our submission wrestling program is based on a combination of freestyle, Folkstyle and Greco Roman wrestling combined with the submissions of BJJ, Sambo, Judo, etc… there are other styles such as Pankration and Catch Wrestling, but the style we practice is the most common in today’s MMA world. We incorporate as many different forms of submission wrestling as possible to keep up with this ever changing game. A good submission game is paramount to being successful in the MMA arena! Submission wrestling is a fast, realistic, game that is as effective as it is fun!
Mixed Martial Arts
During MMA class you will learn how to transition between the various aspects of fighting. One of the biggest aspects of MMA, which is ignored by many, is the transitions between the various aspects of MMA! Transitioning from the striking range, to the clinch range, to the standing grappling range, to the ground & pound and/or submission grappling range may very well mean the difference between a close win and a close loss! It may mean a huge difference if the discrepancy is too big? So, during MMA class we work on these all important transitions. This time is also used to learn different types of clinch fighting and ground & pound. Not every fighter is built the same so MMA time is game plan time and time to figure out the best game for YOU, through sparring and analysis!

Chris "Pretty Boy" Shaffer at the Subleage 2008 championships. Good job PB!
Paul "The Southern Gent" Brown in his first MMA fight!!! he won by TKO in the first round. Paul is new to T-Town MMA and fought this fight about two months before he started training!!! i thought that it was a very good job of winning a fight in the clinch game. We are happy to have Paul on the team because he is not only a talented fighter, but i gave him the nickname "The Southern Gent" because...well, that's exactly what he is! One of the nicest people you could meet, Paul is the type of guy that would, literally, give you the shirt off his back! Here's to you Paul...Welcome to T-Town MMA!

Jimmy Thompson - Mixed Martial Arts Trainer - I started training martial arts at the age of 6. I hold a black belt in American Freestyle Karate, in which I was a 2 X World Pro-AM Champion. I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 1997, when I went to college at The University of Washington, and have continued to train in many different grappling forms ever since. After finding success in competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments, up and down the west coast, I earned my blue belt in 1999. The same week I received my blue belt I fought my first Mixed Martial Arts fight and have been lucky enough to study under some of the top names in MMA throughout the years. I also fought my first Kickboxing match in 1999 and have continued to train throughout the years in boxing and kickboxing. As I matured I realized that my success in MMA was due to the fact that I had been lucky enough to follow the proper steps and had developed each aspect of my game through competing in Karate, Wrestling, Kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu all in their purest forms. Having solid roots in both striking and grappling made MMA a logical progression in my athletic career. Also, the combination of competing and training in both traditional martial arts and other combat sports gave me the tools to understand how to properly prepare my body and mind for the rigors that were to come! My experiences in the full contact arena, coupled with my experiences as a semi-pro cyclist, have paid dividends as a trainer. I am able to understand a student and/or fighters needs physically, mentally, scientifically and technically, because I’ve been in such similar situations…several times over! I know how to set up a training camp, I know what it feels like to come back to the corner after getting pounded on for a full round, I understand the hell of weight cutting and the science/art of peaking for and event. I can see when someone is over trained and, from experience, I know the causes, symptoms and remedies. I can help people through “plateau’s”…be it a mental, physical or technical one. Mixed Martial Arts is the fasted growing sport in America and constantly evolving. I’ll be the first one to tell you that I am the luckiest man alive, I LOVE MY WORK! There is nothing I would rather do than to teach my students and train fighters....really, what could be better? As a trainer I feel it is my obligation to continue to learn and constantly expand my knowledge base. I also believe that it is my duty to understand a fighter’s strengths and weaknesses so we can build off of those strengths and develop those weaknesses. I started training fighters in 2006 and have worked hard to find success (which I’ve been blessed to find!). So far I have trained and worked with many MMA, Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling champions. I have also had the pleasure of using training as a tool to help better people’s lives in many ways! Every one of my students gets trained like a fighter. Everyone who walks through the doors learns the technical aspect of what they are doing as well as the theories behind the techniques that I teach. I strongly believe in teaching the theory behind the techniques because a theory behind a certain technique is often closely related to the theory to a similar technique. Over the years I have also found that understanding the theories that apply to one aspect of fighting closely mimic that of another aspect (ex. the importance of your hips in both BJJ and Kickboxing, the use of proper footwork in Wrestling and Boxing, the use of under hooks and over hooks in Submission Wrestling and Muay Thai, as well as, MMA and BJJ! etc…). Another aspect that I emphasize is CONDITIONING!!! Everyone that trains with T-Town MMA and FightAlliance will benefit from our conditioning program. The most decorated wrestler and coach in U.S. history, Dan Gable, said it best “the one thing that an athlete DOES have control over is their CONDITIONING!” Being well conditioned is just as important as being technically proficient…what good is any technique, at all, if you are too tired to use it? A person can be the most talented, best technically, stronger, bigger, faster, have a mental edge…whatever…but, when it all comes down to it, if you haven’t finished the job in the first minute and you have spent all of your energy already, the odds are that you won’t be able to perform up to your potential or even be in a position to use anything that you have worked on! The other thing that I strongly believe in is having fun when you are training. I’ve been to a lot of gyms over the years and the truth is that a lot of gyms are just not fun places to work out at. Be it that it’s because, you feel uncomfortable because of the atmosphere? Maybe you don’t feel like you are progressing or that the instructors don’t even care if you make progress? You might not feel like the training is challenging enough or that you have become a punching bag for higher caliber athletes? The matter of the fact is that every single person who walks into a gym is a different person. Everyone, to a certain degree, has different goals, needs and expectations from their training and if those are not being met or fulfilled than your training experience will not be optimal! In my opinion training should be fun, challenging and educational! Some instructors teach one style, the style that they compete(d) with and works for them, to all of their students and expect the student to find a way to make that style work for them? We all have different attributes, physically and mentally, that to a certain degree defines what will best work for us. Everyone develops their own “game” and any GOOD Teacher/Trainer makes a point to help each student/fighter develop a skill set that is best suited to that students attributes. The combination of a good atmosphere, proper training, and experienced teachers who care about their student’s development is what makes training fun. I don’t see any reason to train somewhere that you leave saying “Man, this is not fun…at all! I don’t learn anything? I don’t even get a good workout? Everyone walks around with a chip on their shoulder…why do I pay to train there? ” I work hard to create the best training atmosphere, because it’s what I love to do! So, leave your ego at the door and come on in and have some fun!
Who I'd like to meet: Cool people to train with, who want to have a tight knit team to work & fight with, whatever your skill level is! If you are a person who wants to learn the MMA game or a seasoned fighter, you are more than welcome to come train with us where ever, or when ever, we are training. We work with people, who are usually SERIOUS about competing, in any combat sport that we can help you prepare for! We are also always happy to meet other combat sport competitors, whatever their emphasis and focus may be. We are also interested in developing good relationships with others in the MMA community. In order to constantly develop we feel that it is vital to train with friends from around the area. there is always something that can be learned...so, our doors are always open to those who are respectful to our team, themselves and respectful to all of the different aspects concerning the MMA community!
