The Beatles, Sheryl Crow, Lucinda Williams, Joan Baez, Carol King, Melissa Etheridge, Willie Nelson, The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Jimmie Vaughan, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dire Straits, CCR, Chrissie Hynde, Queen, Elton John, Bad Company, Pink Floyd, Roy Orbison, Elvis, Ray Charles, Foreigner, The Scorpions, early Van Halen, Joan Jett, 80s hair bands... I hate to even start this list because so many greats (and not-so-greats) have provided inspiration and paved the way. I hope some of these primary influences reveal themselves in my music.
Tahni began playing piano at the age of eight, eventually switching to guitar. From an early age she loved the pop vocals of The Beatles and the soulful blues of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
At the age of 17 Tahni took to the city to begin her music career. Almost immediately she joined all-girl heavy metal band Tantrum as lead guitarist. She spent the next four years opening for bands like Ratt, Queensryche, Exciter and Y&T, sharing practice space with Mötley Crüe. She played regularly on the world-famous Sunset Strip and around Los Angeles, at legendary places like Gazzarri's, The Whiskey, The Country Club and The Troubadour. She also appeared in the 1983 cult classic "Get Crazy" with Malcolm McDowell, Lou Reed, Lee Ving and John Densmore.
Tahni studied at GIT in Hollywood, looking to expand her palette of styles.
The new millennium brought into Tahni’s life her daughter Emme Lou. "Having my little girl changed my life - and my music," she says. She moved to Austin, Texas, hometown of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Shortly thereafter, she recorded her first independent album,“Back Again", which she co-produced with Woody Russell. Spiritual and personal, it chronicles her journey through life and love. With rich harmonies and sweet melodies this album reveals the deep influence of the Beatles.
With her 2nd release, "SweetSpot", Tahni changed gears. “Everyone has a SweetSpot – it's the coolest thing there is...”. "My producer and good friend Mr. Dony Wynn was my other half for this project. He said, 'You play guitar like an old black man', and I knew it was a perfect fit". SweetSpot has a bluesy, vintage R&B vibe and features some of Austin's finest players, including Dony Wynn, Chris Maresh, Riley Osbourne, Danny Bennett, Ted Roddy, Billy Harvey and Larry Chaney. "This was a very spontaneous album... a moment in time".
Tahni’s 3rd CD, To Kiss You, was released in late 2008. This album reveals a stronger Rock/Pop side of Tahni. Rich harmonies, soulful vocals (as always) and smart song writing. To Kiss You was produced and engineered by Kelly Donnelly at Studio Plush, who is currently working on Eric Johnson's upcoming CD.
Recently Tahni has been involved in the fight against breast cancer. Inspired by friend Cherie Mathews, a breast cancer survivor, the song Stronger Again is gaining momentum. Hopefully the song/video will motivate others to join in the fight. The cause has deep meaning for Tahni, who's brother Bill died of Hodgkins Disease after a 14 year battle.
