Powder Turns and Tour de Burns!
Thanks to all of Tahopia and all our friends, new and old, for making Burning Man '07 such a raging success!

Who I'd like to meet:
Tahopia is a group of extraordinary individuals that have dedicated their lives to,”powder turns and tour de burns.” We live to love, and we love to ride… both on wheels & boards, in the dust and in the snow. We spend our blessed lives manifesting our dreams in beautiful Lake Tahoe. Once a year we gather up our belongings and make a pilgrimage to the Black Rock Desert. While we all have our unique talents, we all share a common sentiment: we love living in a creative, euphoric, utopian world. It was on these founding principles that Tahopia was born. Tahopia has since grown into a strong, positive North Lake Tahoe community. By 2006 our camp was a positive, entertaining, and dynamic camp replete with meal plans, fire performers, DJ’s, mad-hatter parties and, of course, our crowning event: the Tour de Burn.
The Tour de Burn was originally conceived as a way to encourage others (and ourselves) to get out of camp during the day and participate in more of the incredible day-time activities that Burning man has to offer. The Tour de Burn is not a race, but a non-competitive and all-inclusive bicycle tour of the exciting streets and areas of our great city. Led by an MC with a bull-horn, participants don custom-made jerseys with the Tahopia logo on the front and a number on the back. The tour begins at Camp Tahopia at 3pm on Wednesday, August 29 for the first leg of the Tour and resumes again for the second leg at 3pm on Thursday, August 30, (all printed in the ‘What-Where-When schedule). We ride together for 3 hours in a large pack at a very leisurely pace. We’ll have plenty of extra jerseys on-hand to encourage passer-bys to spontaneously join the tour. The Tour makes random stops at other interactive camps. These camps suddenly find themselves overwhelmed by burners in matching Tour de Burn jerseys participating in whatever activity that camp offers, and then just as quickly as we arrived, we’re off again, back on our bikes and back on the Tour.
Eventually the Tour makes its way back to our Tahopia Camp for the Tour de Burn after-party and awards ceremony, following the second leg of the Tour starting at approximately 6pm on Thursday afternoon. Music at the after-party will be provided by Tahoe’s finest DJs. Trophies are awarded based on a completely arbitrary and spontaneous point system. Awards include: the style and charisma award, the spirit award, the wit award, the congeniality award, and the coveted “rookie of the year” award. The Tour de Burn ties in nicely with the green theme because it emphasizes the greenest way to travel – by bicycle. We are avid cyclists in our day-to-day lives, and have always loved the way that Burning Man encourages people who might not otherwise ride bicycles to enjoy some time in the saddle. We want to do our part to promote bicycle advocacy. Last year was the first year for the tour and it was a great success All the more reason to rebuild Tahopia in the desert and bring the tour back to the playa for the Burning Man Tour de Burn – 2007 – bigger and better than ever.
