I was not. I'm from a single parent, lowest class family in a small town in the western part of Japan. The only focus during my teen was to get out of this poverty and my hometown. Then I came to the conclusion that English is a must in the 21st century and made up my mind to go study in the United States when I was 16. My mother was skepttical about it and she told me to pass the entrance exam of national university in Japan. I did. And when the certificate was delivered, I ripped it off in front of her. Since then, I worked for 17 hours a day, 7 days a week, 30 days a month to save money for studying in the U.S. Moved to upstate NY in Jan.'00. "Robert Capa in the battle field" After studying at SUNY potsdam for 3 semesters, I was looking for a new opportunity. As a politics major student, I learned a lot of "theories". It was time to learn "reality", I thought. Then I chose Israel. First touched down at Ben Gurion Int'l airport in July '01. For better or for worse, everthing was "hot" in Israel. Beaches are hot, discos are hot, weather was hot, the situation was hot, politics was hot, and girls were hot. Seriously, I've seen 9.11 and war breaking out in April '02 there. Some of my American classmates were ordered to return to their home university. My home Univesity (SUNY) was also about order me to return, but I refused to knelt down on terrorism and told them the following; "Sir, Robert Capa must always stay in the battlefield" "Where there's a will..." Former President Lee Teng Hui has been my lifelong idol ever since I read an article about him during my junior high school years. Suddenly, a chance to see him on live arises. However, there was one problem; I was just a part-time worker who worked for the company for two months at that time and I didn't have a chance to get paid holidays. I wondered for a long time and finally bluffed the company. "I have skills to get a job anytime after leaving this company. But the chance to see Dr.Lee could be just once in my lifetime. Farewell, I choose Taiwan." They had no chance to fire me. Eventually, paid holidays were granted and I made it. The photo with Dr.Lee in my office still gives me inspiration. "Where there's a will, there's a way." "Nothing is more important than Independence and Freedom" As I spent my mid-20s as an ordinary employee, one question came to my mind. "Do I have time to make it?" J.Paul Getty was 23 when he made his first million, Tony Robbins at 24, and I was 26 at that time. No more time to waste, I swore. I made up my mind to start my own business, but didn't know how and what. So I flew to London to pay a visit to Foreign Policy Centre. Then, London Bombings on July 7, 2005... My hotel was just 2 minutes away from the bus. Well, bombings, terrorism, wars are part of realities for me since I spent one year in Israel. I'm always afraid of dying young. But wouldn't it be more scary to think I regret something I didn't do at the very end of my life? My determination got stronger. "The End of History and Jose Mourinho" It was about time to return to Tokyo, after having "huge funs" in Europe and Hong Kong for two weeks. I was aboard when I picked up the biography of Jose Mourinho. I was desperate, nervous, and anxious for I'll be a jobless person once I touch down at Tokyo Int'l Airport. I was interested in how a coach from Portugal without playing career professionally can bring Chelsea back to Championship in one year. In addition, Chelsea has not won the league for 50 years before Mourinho. It was really mysterious for me. The story started four years before Mourinho joined Chelsea. He was an assistanct coach for Barcelona FC at that time. Mourinho made a decision that changed his life forever; "No more assistant coach. I'll be manager only." He resigned from the position and went home with his family. Then He spent the next 4 months in his house reseraching all videos and documents to be manager. Again, I read this part when I quit job and start something new. All my desperation and anxiety were gone. Francis Fukuyama argues "Thymos(self-esteem) changes history" in his masterpiece "The End of History". Simply put, I did exactly the same to be an entrepreneur for the next 3 months. I had no income. I had no guarantee. My remaining balance finally fell to 490 JPY (about 4USD) But I had never lost Hope. Jose Mourinho's photo in my apartment was always watching me. "Office Skyhigh" I established "Office Skyhigh" with the capital 1000JPY (about 8USD) in September 2005. This name came from Reggie Jackson's letter in "Every Pitcher Tells a Story" (by Seth Swirsky) Reggie Jackson recalls the moment when he hit the third consecutive home run in Game 6 of World Series in '77, "My Confidence was skyhigh." Reggie Jackson might not be a role model figure. He was arrogant, big mouth, and trouble maker. But he was forgiven by hitting three home runs in a row and bringing the Yankees back to World Champion for the first time in 14 years. This name means, "Don't ask me what I do after 5pm. But I offer you the best possible professional services and the finest hours."
