DP
How would you describe the double headed, four-armed beast of rock that is DP?
Let’s start with what we know shall we…
We know that DP are two big, bearded kings - Dave Wong (vocals and bass) and Paul Maclean
(drums). A pair of city-dwelling goliaths spawned by Sabbath and Soundgarden, XXL all the
way baby.
We know that together, these two behemoths make an ungodly racket that resides
somewhere between eleven and infinity on the volume control.
We know that when local Hong Kong favourites The Academy called it a day, out from their
ashes rose a rabid panther – who, after savaging the phoenix, now has its sights set on
breaking out into the ether.
To date, news of Dave’s full throttle fuzz assault and Paul’s brutal, driving rhythms have seen
the nascent duo pack out live venues across the city. Invited to play the prestigious industry
showcase event at Music Matters and handpicked to share the stage with the likes of Young
Knives and You Say Party! We Say Die!, DP are fast becoming Hong Kong’s finest purveyors of, well, kick ass music.
Imagine, if you will:
A primordial cacophony, summoned from the ancient gods of metal. Thunderous drumming
and lighting riffage pay homage to the ancestral fires that forged their spirit. A raw intensity
that draws creation from destruction. Songs of man and beast.
Imagine all of that and try to picture it in your head. Then forget it.
For you can try to cage DP though it will never happen. You can try to describe DP as
‘psychedelic-this’ or ‘metal-that’, though that’s missing the point. This kind of rock purity
needs no prefix, no suffix. No nothing.
When all is said and done - DP IS ROCK.
That is all you need to know.

Luxury
Formed in 1998, Luxury have mostly been writing songs with Cantonese lyrics. They play whatever music they like and do not confine themselves to any particular musical genre. They have released an EP and have taken part in several compilations. They are now recording their debut album. Luxury are: Leung (vocals), Hang (guitar), Kei (bass), and Simon (drums).
Velvette Vendetta
Blasting rough-edge energy with velvet melodies.
Velvette Vendetta is influenced by a wide range of music genres – ranging from metal, indie, jazz, goth-rock, blues, classical, techno to pop. However, the band's musical direction reflects alternative rock and grunge. This beautiful mix of genres blended with a hint of "dark" classical music is Velvette Vendetta's ingredient. The music is often described by listeners as soothing yet oozing with energy, much to the amusement of the band. Velvette Vendetta's live performances are just that -> full of energy.
Come to one of the band's show and be ready to be mesmerized, be you head-banger or flamboyant girl.
The year 2007 was equally memorable and progressive for Velvette Vendetta. They were headlined in the city's premier band shows and had an opportunity to play in China. The band also managed to get healthy press interest.
At the moment, Velvette Vendetta is in midst of recording their first album and they continue to play live locally. In 2008, the band carries on their mission to collaborate with more bands and to elevate the HK underground scene to the next level - internationally.

Violent Jokes
Violent Jokes is the latest production by The Projects UK, after their music crossed the oceans and reached Hong Kong. A live translation of The Projects' acid, energetic loops was no mean feat: combining computer technology with distorted guitars, powerful synths with spank new melodies and lyrics, the result is a completely original product that will please the most demanding audience.
Inspired by the latest trip hop trends, Violent Jokes are bringing to Hong Kong an unusual combination of deep, rich electro beats originally crafted by Griff (The Projects, New Yorks Finest Taxi Service, Sushi Robot and OneDayComa) with sexy, crispy melodies sung by Shadow (Sea Monsters, Else), enriched by ad hoc improvisations played by Cla (Pentaprisma, Jazz Funkadelico).
Pure synthetic pleasure, ”smooth as a girlfriend”.
