Take October is a rock-based band that is influenced by artists such as Guster, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, Barenaked Ladies, Dream Theater and Pearl Jam. Their original song archive is currently at approximately 20 songs and they can perform more than 40 covers as well. The band has been together since November of 2004. Having developed a legitimate fan base in the greater Danbury area—specifically at Western Connecticut State University—their eclectic, acoustic rock style appeals to younger audiences and still catches the ear of those past their college years. Front men Joe Coscina and Matt Norlander met in September of 2003 and began playing music together soon thereafter. Once the desire to play cover tunes faded away, the idea of writing original music and playing in a full band fermented. It was then that the two recruited Tom Farrell, then a bassist, to play with them. After playing as a four-piece band for almost two years with a former drummer, the band reshaped, putting Farrell’s undeniable talent behind the kit (where it belongs), and in the past year they have brought in two true musicians. Bassist Pete Tamaro has been playing bass for 10 years. With the pressure to only play covers in order to appeal to audiences in their area, Take October has overcome the norms and wowed over bar crowds and owners alike by invoking energy, involvement and interest with their head-turning original material.
Take October has played all over Connecticut and New York, from small bars to historic clubs. But what means the most to this band is its fan base, which has proved its dedication many times over. One of the prime examples of that is exhibited by the fact that Take October won Tuxedo Junction’s “Battle of the Fans” competition in 2006, when they delivered more than 200 fans to the event and defeated eight other groups in the process.
