Taking Pictures fits into the "wall of sound" music catagory. We are a melodic (though not sugary) and rhythmically dense band (but it's in 4/4, don't be lazy, we are not a math rock band. . . ) that favors tight song structures as well as more free/improvisational pieces. Our music is, for the most part, a collective effort of the involved artists and writing and practice are a source of great joy for us.
the final taking pictures album has been mastered. it sounds great. A small vinyl pressing is forthcoming with some handmade sleeves as well as a download.
You guys are absolutely the best band in the world. I now get the ironic juxtaposition of ya'll having the worst band name in the world with the best musical body of work in the world. You guys are the Steve James of white people that play instruments that have bad band names...that just happen to be the best band in the world. Shouldn't you guys like reform or something since everyone's into expensive shitty haircuts or something? You guys can like profit off of everyone realizing where their expensive shitty haircuts come from.
It depresses me that I have more friends than ya'll for being a trite, loud asshole than ya'll have for being maybe the best band in the world. But I'm in a band that's pretty good too(seriously, we're good as fuck--you just have to believe that shit). Maybe we could like cosmically join our energies by ya'll like getting real pissed off about "The Frank Caliendo Show". Energy is eternal.
Sorry for the hyperbolic bullshit--but whatever: Hurl is maybe my favorite band of all time and I was kinda butt-hurt that the band had to bow out. I was slow to warm up to Taking Pictures because I think it's a terrible band-name, and I missed the fourth member...but I really think that "Where You Learned The Blues" is the best song I've heard in years and I wish I could see you guys here in Atlanta. I'm not sayin' nuthin'--but I totally think you guys are gonna triumph.
The news about final record is a good surprise, but it makes me happy/sad at the same time.....anyway I'll try my best to make the record heard.
We're going to be back again in Chicago next February. Really really looking forward to seeing you guys all. And I hope the vinyl will have done when we are there...
damn right... glad as hell you guys're getting this thing out-- lemme know when the vinyl hits the shelves-- i'll take 2! i was starting to worry about how much longer my cdr of the rough mixes'd last...
at last you did it ,you diiiid it. the new material sounds great, the second one is simply amazing.. and now the hardest for me ...find it.. best for you david
i need the 'jencik party guy: 773-***-****" photo that rob lomblad took. If you cannot provide me with this, I will remove my wayne and garth HURL tattoo.
"Words Sound Like Drones" is reverential...just amazing. I don't know, I guess just thanks to you guys for making eternally idiosyncratic, poignant music.
Heard about the breakup a while back.
I think it was one of your first shows in Chicago I stumbled upon, I remember the hair on my neck standing and going home very inspired.
You guys were a great band.
If anybody is interested, I've got a video of TA Live below.

your shows were always really emotional for me. which sounds stupid as hell but it's true. i remember welling up with tears a couple of times watching you across the internet on fuzzy streams from chicago. you guys made me reconsider what a small set of people can do, the kind of power that can be created through music. please do release the next record somehow--i remember you guys playing songs you said would be on it, and i'd love to hear them again.
I really understand because TP was such a greatest band that it's hard to get over the emptiness out of breakup. I wish we could help you guys in the release of 2nd stuff, one of my best in 2005.
So, it's good to be updated on somewhere.
I want evreyone to take a listen to that.
I'll tell it to people as far as I can.
That sucks. Knew you guys since Hurl. I just self released something as well, let me know if I can help out at all. Definately put the new record out somehow. Best wishes with new projects.
This is extremely disappointing on so many different levels. I don't even know where to begin. You guys kept my rock dreams alive. I will break up as well.
back in 'nam, the TP got me through a lot of tough times - like shooting babies n shit. or maybe it was the acid that got me through times. fuck- i don't remember. who the fuck is taking pictures ???!?? get away from me!!! HELP!!!!!! SOMEONE!!!!
PORCELIN is the new way to make places to shit, the old way was hardened clay, the really old way was dinosaur skulls, before that it was probably PORCELIN. PORCELIN! - sam
Saw you guys with Don Cabarello at the Empty Bottle...sooooo freaking sweet...one of the best shows ever! Noah uses to double bass drum attack with style...
