THANK YOU FOR HELPING LEONARD PELTIER!
After an urgent message from Peltier's sister was widely circulated, saying that Leonard was beaten and left in solitary confinement with not enough food to allow him to manage his diabetes, floods of people contacted the prison system and the White House. This resulted in his being transferred back to the (relatively) safe prison at Lewisburg, PA.
We are still asking everyone to contact the White House to urge clemency for this Native-American political prisoner who has been jailed for 33 years for a crime that he did not commit.
You can help by writing to President Obama at the White House website.
To hear Leonard's story, listen to my song "Wind Chases the Sun", which was written in February 2006, on the 30th anniversary of his incarceration.

A place I know well. I think the Mystic Seaport and Williamsburg are naturals for Gaelic music. As you know there have always been Gaelic immigrants to America and prior to 1825 the majority of Highland immigrants were Gaelic speakers. My gradnfather told me that in 1914-1918 the majority of the Canadians from Cape Breton Island could speak Gaelic. It is sad how much the language has declined since 1910 but it is a wonderful thing that its musical heritage is being preserved and still added on to. I have always felt that it was important for me to support Gaelic and Gaelic music even though I know my own children won't speak it and know little of it because I think it gives hope and encourgement to those who remain. But more than that the music has always spoken to my heart and has been a source of much wisdom and delight.
Hello again, Talitha - I have added you to my favorites. Thanks so much for these songs. I have also written to President Obama requesting clemency for Leonard Peltier.
