The rapper Ricochet was born April 10, 1982 in Newark, New Jersey where he spent most of his adolescent years growing up. In the summer of 1996, he relocated to Richmond, Virginia where he has found himself a home away from home for the past 9-10 years. While rapping for over 11 years now, his musical inspirations that really made him want to rap, ironically was MC Search. Ricochet, otherwise known as Ricky, thought Search was so ill. Ricky did say hearing Nas, solidified the fact that rapping is what he is going to do - he notes that if it wasnt for Nas, he would be rapping today. Ricky began to take music seriously about 5-6 years ago, when he began to actually pen verses down and structuring songs. Around that time is when he got his alias (Ricochet) for having a flow that bounced off of the last line. He mastered that to a science. Now as a polished MC, he feels that he can reach out to others that go through similar issues without actually glorifying the situation. And for it to serve as a refreshment to listeners that someone else is going through or beat what Im going through or went through. For those that never really went through it like that, Ricky feels his music will be an adventure and would help people understand why people do certain things, by not trying to justify, but only enlighten listeners to what goes on around him. When listening to his music, he feels that one is forced to be drawn automatically by his raspy voice - "Thats whats gonna make you listen", states Ricky, "and then on top of that, I have production that helps capture my pain or make it easier for me to express." He explains of how his music is 99% all him, with out false flaggin anything. The other 1%, he explains is something that he has seen or the person next to him went through, like that was crazy what happened to this dude let me put that in a rhyme. Ricochets number one inspiration is his children. He explains how thats what gives him his drive to make the music work, because otherwise he would be okay with the hood. "They put that extra boost in meI wouldnt be pressin rap like that if it wasnt for them." Behind coming up in the environment that he came up in, his music displays an intellectual that is just giving you his twist. When my music pops, and this beginning stage is all over and done, Im gonna grab people out the hood that I think can impact the hood in a positive way. Not the dude that got like 100 bricks, but people that want to do well for themselves and the people around them.
