"That's something else that gives me a royal pain. I mean if you're good at writing compositions and somebody starts talking about commas. Stradlater was always doing that. He wanted you to think that the only reason he was lousy at writing compositions was because he stuck all the commas in the wrong place."
-Holden Caufield ( The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger)
Singer/Songwriter Bear Connelly has been playing music in a variety of bands (Purple Monkey Dishwasher, Two Out Rally, the White Thighs, Title Waive) for the past 10 years. A native of Rhode Island, Bear has performed his original compositions at clubs and festivals throughout New England and Northern California.
Using a first person approach to songwriting, Bear tackles issues that are a part of our everyday lives, from relationships, strength of self, compassion, desires of the mind and heart, authority figures, to the human impact on the natural world.
Bear's current ensemble "Talking About Commas" contributes a lush texture of sounds and rhythms to the unique original compositions written by Bear for these recording sessions.
"Sick of Blocking Out the Sun" was released by Rhody Records in July of 2008. It features Bear on guitar and vocals, Pete Morse on electric guitars and bass, Stefen Samuels (of Portland Maine prog-rockers "Eldemur Krimm") on drums and special appearance by RI songstress Allysen Callery on the song "Plea Bargain".
March 28th in Cambridge, MA marked the debut of the new live configuration of Talking ABout Commas. TAC isnow a trio featuring Bear on guitars and vocals, Tom Newman on bass and vocals and Ethan Fry on drums. Look for more trio gigs to pop up in the coming months.
