The Talkin' Roots Crew can be described as an acoustic/spoken word/poetry/reggae/jam band. Giving musical life to the spoken word,Rasta based poetry of playwright David Daniels. Much of Daniels'poetry is derived from passages from his work as founder of the Reggae Theatre Ensemble. At the same time the Talkin'Roots Crew has also been known to "cover" poets whose work corresponds with the Rasta Reggae message...

The Talkin' Roots Crew's beginnings go back to Harmony Park Music Garden at Harvest Fest back in 2003. Originally a voice,drum and bass ensemble,it has evolved over time.It was conceived by David Daniels orginally to present spoken word adaptations from passages of plays he had presented as the founding member of the Reggae Theater Ensemble.Now on any given performance,in addition to Daniels' work,you might hear the Talkin Roots Crew perform "spoken word covers" of poets Richard Brautigan,Gary Snyder,Wendell Berry..even Robert Hunter! It is difficult to define the Talkin' Roots Crew..Call it an Acoustic Reggae/Spoken Word/Folk/Poetry/Jam Band.
Each member brings a unique influence to the Talkin' Roots Crew. Van Nixon is most noted for a founding member of the groundbreaking local Twin Cities Reggae band,The Maroons.Anyone who has heard Van knows of his soulful,gospel influenced vocal delivery.
Bassist Ike Russell has been with the Talkin Roots Crew from the beginning. Ike plays with a number of reggae,hip-hop and traditional South American music.
Charlie Braden,saxophonist brings an element of experimental jazz..
Dan Boldt "Tabla Dan" nuff said.. Dan Schauer spent time jamming with the One Eyed Jacks.. Noah Factor on guitar and drums has contributed original work.

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
