    Quartknee's Interests
GeneralI have way too many interests to list them all here though lately I find I've been fascinated by sunshine, rainbows and the separation of church and state.
MusicI started out as a New Wave DJ in the early 80's. When I first played out in a dance club it was all Death Rock - yeah, I was a frustrated angst ridden post-punk teen at the time. My life was radically altered by a trip to Chicago & NYC in 1987 and I wouldn't have it any other way... I can appreciate all kinds of music & I do listen to a broad range of genres and styles, but my heart truly belongs to House Music - still. For over twenty years it's been in a heavy rotation in my life. I listen to all the hybrids of House and some of its descendants as well as its musical roots like Disco, R&B, Soul, Funk, Ragtime, Swing and Cabin Songs.

I love 80's Freestyle and Electro - early Hip Hop too, before they turned it into "Rap" = Grand Master Flash was the DJ and Herbie Hancock made instrumentals - it was supposed to be about a unique musical genre instead they morphed it into rock n roll. Missy Elliot's on the right tip in trying to return to the party vibe at least when she gets the joint out her mouth... Lately I've been listening to a lot of 80's funk living for Cameo and Ready For The World and some 70's Prince. I'll also admit that underground gay 70's Disco has been making a resurgence in San Francisco & I couldn't be happier with that development. I'm not a huge fan of Hi-NRG but if its done right (Patrick Cowley) I can handle it. I'm a bigger fan of Groove style Disco & I've always especially loved 70s Space Disco - maybe it prepared me for Acid House in the 80s.

I listen to Dutch Pop Musiek, Nederpop and Dutch dance music. I particularly like Fierce Ruling Diva (FDR!), Het Goede Doel, and Marco Borsato. I've been known to listen to Dutch Hip Hop as well. I like Osdorp Posse and my newest discovery: DJ Doner. I also love Dutch comic zangers like Sylvia Millecam (RIP) and Paul De Leeuw. I've recently discovered Dutch R&B and can't stop listening to Imi and Too Strong.

I listen to Japanese Anime soundtracks more than Broadway show tunes and my three favourite soundtracks of all time are for Bladerunner, The Wiz (Movie not Musical) and Ja Zuster, Nee Zuster (Movie not TV Show)

I don't have much experience with Country music and I'm not a fan of hard rock - I think I may be far too funky to really appreciate either genre.

I started making my own music in the early 90's. My old band is called, Foxgluv - you can find them in my friends list or http://www.myspace.com/foxgluv Even though I left the band, I still love and support them so go to iTunes and buy their debut album!

MoviesAll time favorite films: Pee Wee's Big Adventure, The Wiz, His Secret Life, Bladerunner, Ja Zuster Nee Zuster, Minority Report, Paris Is Burning, 1984, Voor Een Verloren Soldaat and Animal House

OK, so what is that about? I love comedy apparently, and dark, futuristic cyber punk as well as buddy films and character driven plots. On a deeper level obviously I'm drawn to tales of justice, redemption and self discovery...

TelevisionI don't really watch TV with much regularity these days. I have been known to enjoy: Comedy = South Park, The Daily Show, Drawn Together and Comic View

Scripted Dramas = Lost, the Law & Order franchise, The 4400, The Dead Zone and Rome

Unscripted = I love the real estate shows - Sell This House, Move This House, Flip This House, This Old House, Ask This Old House, Double Agents, Location Location Location, The Life Laundry or Clean Sweep, Intervention if it's not heroin, America's Next Top Model reruns, Survivor's last half hour and Big Brother in the summer if the cast is good.

I'm also a History channel Junky and I've been known to leave it on for hours until some WW2 crap comes on and frees me from its mesmerizing grip.

BooksI mostly read non-fiction. I have a "gym book" that I only allow myself to read at the gym while I'm riding the stationary bike. It helps me stay motivated to go just to discover what happens next.

I usually have a "bus book" that I read on the bus on my way to work, though lately I've been distracted with my iPod and I started walking home when I can't get to the gym.

I know it freaks people out when I tell them, but I also read the bible or a book about the bible before I go to bed almost every night. I understand that most people have really been hurt by misguided religionists who use the book for their selfish ends and its not like I'm out proselytizing or anything, I just find comfort in it and it helps me relax before going to sleep.

About me:

I'm probably taller than you. I'm taller than virtually everyone I've ever met. I run a website for really tall people called The Height Site and if you're tall, you should check it out but honestly, my height is really a small component of who I am.

I like to keep fit and go to the gym regularly but I'm not obsessed with it. I really enjoy dance music and I still consider myself a Houser to the core, but I don..t really like going out to nightclubs or bars very much anymore. That was my career for well over ten years, and I've had enough of the club scene.

I seem to have a lot of creative friends and I like to support them by attending their shows, art openings, record release parties, etc. On weekends, I can veg out in front of the TV or computer as well as getting out to explore the city maybe hit the farmer's market or a street fair or go to the beach if the weather is nice.
.. width="425" height="350">.. ..>

I read at least one book a month, mostly non-fiction. I love films, though I probably don't get round to see as many as I'd like. I make no distinction between high-brow and low-brow fare. I'll watch mainstream Hollywood films as well as indie fare and foreign films but I don't particularly care for 'shoot-em up' types.

I love watching or playing volleyball though I don't get much opportunity to do it. I also like watching soccer, rugby and both college and pro basketball.

I can speak basic French though I find my vocabulary shrinks with each passing year of disuse. I..m currently teaching myself to speak Dutch, so any native speakers who want to contact me, Ik verlang naar jou! I'm also toying around with Hawaiian but I need to spend more time with the hakalama because I still get tongue tied rather quickly!

I'm a vegan, though I'm not millitant about it. I understand it's not right for everyone but it really works for me and I find it fairly easy to stick to it. I became a vegetarian about 23 years ago and vegan ten years after that. I'm not really too strict with it coz I wear leather, suede, and, wool sometimes. I also eat honey and I eat gummy bears sometimes too.

Who I'd like to meet:
I'd love to find someone tall to date. I've been known to date women occasionally, but at this point in my life, I'd rather be with a man. I'm looking for someone like me, and yet someone completely different. I look at the mix of experiences and tend to gauge how those experiences make us better people.

I really like hairy men (hairy backs or shoulders are a + for me) but some smooth guys - esp. redheads and blonds have been known to catch my eye sometimes.

I'm from Southern California - so I'm probably a bit more laid back and non-scene oriented than a lot of guys I've met here in SF. I do like to get out and have fun, I just like a lot of different experiences and places. I'm comfortable with who I am, but my sexuality doesn't define my entire existence -- and I would like to meet other guys who are multi-dimensional too.

All of my friends can be described as unique and it seems that each has a strong character, so if you've got a lot of hang-ups about diversity or you're judgmental about certain "types", then I may not be the guy for you - unless you're willing to expand your horizons a little.

I don't mind dating carnivores, but I've often found they seem to feel guilty about their food choices especially when they realize how consistent I am with mine. I have a high degree of integrity and expect the same from the guys I date.

I like masculine men, but if you think of yourself as "straight-acting" then don..t bother with me because I..ve had enough of actors. I Prefer intelligent guys with something interesting to say and maybe more interests beyond just shopping, shagging or working all the time. If you..re passionate about something, an activity or hobby that..s a big+ esp. if it..s something we could enjoy together. You don..t have to be into what I..m into, just be into something enough to want to share it with me.

To get with me, you should love your family and your job, be kind to animals, the elderly and those less fortunate than yourself. Please don't be afraid to make a mistake, act silly or be completely honest, or diplomatic when ones feelings are on the line. Ultimately however, looks, height, weight, financial resources, your neighborhood or mode of transportation really don..t matter to me as much as the way you treat yourself and those around you.

Thanks for you support,
