Tall Friends has been a continually reincarnating act originating from the back woods of Michigan. Many musicians have filled various positions for various lengths of time over the years, but the current 3 piece line up has become increasingly evident to both the members and fans alike to be special. The music has recently become predominantly focused on a blend of heavy rock/punk but always with an approachable pop-sensibility. Not that Tall Friends is a pop act, but songs typically clock in less than three minutes and discernible, straight forward song structure is a focus in the writing process. They like to come on stage and hit the audience fast and get straight to the point.
After a necessary hiatus, the three began to gig around Chicago in November, 2006, as a request from a member of local rock group the Prams. It was to be a birthday celebration show for a member of the band and it was his request that Tall Friends come out of hibernation and join them for the festivities at Chicago standby, the Elbo Room. The response from the unsuspecting crowd was incredibly positive; a spark was lit in the backs of the minds of Tall Friends as they were met with great enthusiasm. Other local punk rock acts took an immediate liking to Tall Friends that evening and shows began to line up. Tall Friends has played Chicago hot spots including the Double Door, the Subterranean, the Elbo Room, and Beat Kitchen as well as the Lincoln Park Street Fair, the Cubby Bear, Wise Fools Pub, the Mutiny, the Gallery Cabaret, Goose Island Pub, and Coyle’s Tippling House.
Tall Friends recently completed a full length album entitled "Stand By" that was self released early March, 2007, in response to the international RPM challenge. 11 songs were written and recorded over the course of February, as per RPM challenge instructions, with the help of surrogate Tall Friends member Brady Pawlik. One track was selected to be included on a compilation album to be released in October 2007 by Michigan non-profit organization 826michigan. Inspired by the completion of this challenge, Tall Friends hasn’t stopped writing. Lacking a looming 28 day time limit has allowed them to explore ideas more thoroughly and write songs that reflect their own sense of completion rather than that of a rapid deadline. Both methods of writing have proven successful.
Where Tall Friends is at their best is in a live setting. Whether it is in the lo-fi, DIY confines of a local dive or the higher end production setting of small to mid-sized music venues, Tall Friends is equally comfortable. Regardless of where it is they happen to be performing, Tall Friends’ music translates to the audience with the same excitement and passion that they get out of playing it, every time.
In June 2007 Tall Friends once again became a 4-piece. In addition to his role in TFBFF We Make Thunder, Tyler Brinegar added his guitar talents to the Tall Friends’ lineup throughout the summer. Anyone that saw this handful of shows witnessed rock magnitude never before seen from Tall Friends, and the band reached a new high when they played House of Blues Chicago in September.
Tall Friends just wrapped up a handful of shows in early 2008 and will be recording new songs for a while.

not to be an a-hole, but our super show is at the GALLERY cabaret, not the CABARET gallery. i just don't want all the tall friends super fans getting lost on the way to the super show. also, that first song on your cd is my favorite. you should put it up here. i don't know the name of it, the one that is all "it's not a curse, it's a gift." yeah. that one.
