Author, Poet, Columnist, and 2009 Poetry Slam Champion releases second book “Confectionately Yours”. Hosted by Rep Radio, T Bar and SweetHearts for Charity, “Confectionately Yours” plans to tickle the poetic taste buds for all readers! Tamesha S. Hawkins, a New Jersey native, attended Temple University where she majored in Elementary Education with concentrations in Theater Arts and Psychology. Maintaining a home away from home in Philadelphia, she devotes her time to working in the theatre profession, promoting literacy in Philadelphia public schools, and performing. Recently crowned The PBGP Poetry Slam Champion for 2009, Hawkins is excited that her work is taking shape in the community. Next, she is writing a one-woman showcase titled Beginning with Molasses, which will bring her poetry to life for the theater stage followed by her third book “Mahogany Nectar: a Poetic Memoir”. After the completion of her play, Hawkins’ plans to leave the U.S. and journey to Japan to enhance her writing and Theater Administration knowledge. Hawkins released her first book “Sugar Lumps and Black Eye Blues” in 2007 which gained the attention of booksellers across the globe. She hopes that “Confectionately Yours” can follow the same pattern. Selections from both her books have been featured on Brown Girl Radio: A Cure for the Common, Da Block, WRTI 90.1 FM with J. Michael Harrison, Temple University, Lincoln University, Aspire Arts, NBC 10, Moonstone: 100 Poets Reading, NateBrown Entertainment, Tree House Books, Poet Tree, Warmdaddy’s, Jus Words, NJ Performing Arts Center, T Bar, Verbal Roots, The NAACP, Lyrical Playground, Robin’s Bookstore, First Person Arts at The Gershman Y Salon, The RED Lounge for AIDS Awareness, and Dr. Sonia Sanchez Literacy Night. New book, Confectionately Yours falls in step with debut work Sugar Lumps and Black Eye Blues by highlighting the author’s spirited phrase “even sugar can be raw”. Personal, political and passionate this journal of moments examines the triumphs, pitfalls and chaos of daily living with a pen and a notebook for social change. Documenting birthdays, holidays, campaign trails, Auld Lang Syne, Valentine, social causes to Santa Claus, May flowers and Spring showers with anticipation to find the natural saccharine of humanity.
