CD Launch - Music Deli Presents Jim Conway Saturday 12 July 2008 The Harp Hotel, 900 Princes Hwy Tempe, Door Charge is $20. Show starts at 8.00pm
On July 12, 2008, at the Harp Hotel, ABC Records will celebrate Jim Conway’s long and memorable career spanning 4 decades, by releasing a compilation CD of his work recorded by ABC Radio’s Music Deli over the last 14 years. Music Deli will be releasing a series of compilations of Australian musicians of particular significance over the next few years, but this CD is the first release that focuses exclusively on the work of one artist. Jim’s unique style has influenced generations of harp players, both here and overseas, and this style imbues his musical projects with a distinct quality and undeniable emotional power. The compilation CD showcases Jim’s performance with The Backsliders (Chris Wilson as special guest), The Brewster Brothers and Jim Conway’s Big Wheel. There are also tracks featuring Jim Conway and Jeff Lang, brought together to play exclusively at the 2007 Blue Mountains Music Festival. ‘Music Deli Presents Jim Conway’ highlights Jim’s flexibility; he can move effortlessly from a heavy pumping rocking blues in the Backsliders, to a sparse lyricism where every sustained note sends shivers up ones spine as in the opening of the Brewster Brothers ‘Do it Again’.
The launch of Music Deli Presents Jim Conway at the Harp will be a memorable one, with Chris Wilson (Paul Kelly, Crown of Thorns) joining Jim and the 5-piece Big Wheel on stage to create some amazing music. The launch will be a family affair for the Conway Clan with Mic Conway as MC for the night, and hopefully joining his brother for a few songs. Jim and Mic’s nephew, Tamlin, will be supporting his uncle on the night. As an accomplished singer/songwriter, Tamlin is quickly earning a reputation as a truly captivating performer with his hybrid mix of roots, reggae and rock.
