My New Mantras - "Change is Good" & in the words of one of my design heros, "Less is More"...
After years of boredom in sales (the last 7 in real estate) & marketing, its time to explore my CREATIVE SIDE. I'm in school for interior design, so I'm looking to make a career change. We'll see what develops... I'll keep you posted.
Music
Anything that sounds good! House, dance, gospel, whatever. Faves: Chaka Khan, Jill Scott, John Legend, Rap without four letter words, Kirk Franklin, Angie Stone, Kem, Angelique Kidjo, early Whitney, Anita Baker, Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, Incognito, Michael Franks, Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke, Stevie Wonder, Will Downing (in no particular order excluding Chaka and Jill).
Movies
Sparkle - Best movie of my childhood, next would be Cooley High. Of course anything with Denzel, chick flicks, 70's blakpoitation movies, Memento, Dead Man Walking, Love Jones, Malcolm X, The Color Purple, Lady Sings the Blues, Napoleon Dynamite, The Usual Suspects, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Girl Interrupted, The Brat Pack Movies of the 80s - St. Elmo's Fire & The Breakfast Club, etc., The Talented Mr. Ripley, Crash, Risky Business, and Steel Magnolias. Now try to figure me out...
Television
Don't watch much - mostly HGTV. Faves: Divine Design, Color Splash, Designed to Sell. Everything else is garbage except Entourage & The Wire. Used to love Sex and the City, Six Feet Under & Oz. (Weird, right?) I just discovered The Office - Funny as hell. Did I mention HGTV?
Books
Faves: Psalms and Proverbs. Fiction, enlightening not heavy. No Self-Help - I seek God's Word for that. When time permits (which is very rare), I'm trying to read "The Kite Runner". Just finished "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" and "A Million Little Pieces". Next is "The Alchemist", "For One More Day", & "Dry" by Augusten Burroughs ("Running with Scissors" was crazy!!) Favorite Books - The Colored Purple, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, The Rapture of Canaan, A Lesson Before Dying, Lovely Bones, and The Autobiography of Malcom X.
Heroes
Jesus, My ancestors, Oprah Winfrey, W.E.B Dubois, Nefertiti (let me tell you, she rocked!) Hillary Clinton (anyone who can put up with Bill and still shine in her own right is a bad sister!), Todd and My mother.
Besides Jesus - (in no particular order) MLK, Mahatma Ghandi, Assata Shakur, Angela Davis, Malcolm & Betty Shabazz, Le Corbusier, The 12 Apostles, Oprah Winfrey, Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera, Picasso, Salvador Dali, Alexander Calder, Madeline Albright, Josephine Baker, Frank Gehry, Sonia Sanchez, Nikki Giovanni, Akhenaton & Nefertiti, Colin Powell, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Stuart Davis, WEB DuBois, Booker T. Washington, Madame CJ Walker, Frank Lloyd Wright, Billie Holiday, Dorothy Draper, Charles & Ray Eames, Frederick Douglass, Barack & Michele Obama, Bill & Hillary Clinton (I've had a crush on him since the Monica Lewinsky drama), Mary Magdalene, Alice Walker, Anne Franke and Nelson Mandela.
Now I need to add that damn Kara Walker...
