Born and brought up in Botswana, 21 year old Tamanda Walker is just at the start of a very promising career as a singer-songwriter. The young singer first received formal training at London's Vocaltech College in 2004 where she completed a diploma in Jazz and Pop Vocals. It was here that Tamanda decided to take up piano playing and make her first serious attempt at song-writing. By the end of the course her writing had attracted the attention of Yak Bondy (Emma Bunton, Rachel Stevens, Amy Studt, S Club 7) of Simon Fuller's 19 Management who persuaded her to pursue what he saw as a raw talent. She was nominated for and went on to win the Sibelius Award for Songwriter Of The Year.
Progression from here was swift. Immediately after leaving the college she was successful in securing a job as a singing waitress at the award winning Naked Turtle Restaurant in Richmond. It was singing here every night for two years that she began to develop her skills as an artist and performer. Simultaneously, she continued to work on her writing and began to build up a profile doing session work with the likes of Yak Bondy and Helene Muddiman (Warner Chappell). She joined a number of bands and formed, on her own, The Tamanda Walker Band, with which she continues to perform her original material around London. The success of this project saw her nominated for a prestigious INDY Music Award in 2007 which is widely accepted as placing artists firmly into the top 1% of upcoming live acts on the UK music scene.
Within the last year, her work has gone from strength to strength. 2007 saw the successful underground rising of her garage collaboration 'I Don't Wanna Fight' with DJ DannyDubbzz. She has also worked tirelessly on her album which has been managed by Paul Kennedy and Tim Parry at BigLife Music. The collaboration project has allowed her to work closely with Maryann and Michael Tedstone (Universal Music) on a project that has already generated much interest and has opened up the opportunity to pursue work with a number of successful writers and producers in the coming months.
