About me:
Tangent is an independent literary arts publication produced by a group of young writers and artists in Buffalo, NY. Tangent showcases the work of emerging writers and artists whose unique voices may not otherwise be heard over the unrelenting din of our popular culture. Stressing the importance of how people use writing and art to empower and strengthen their individual voices, Tangent Literary Arts Magazine offers an open microphone to budding wordsmiths and artists brave enough to accept it. Tangent is published bi-annually, and is sold online, in bookstores and at literary arts festivals in the Western New York area. Poetry, short stories, flash fiction, and creative non-fiction on any topic are accepted year-round. Photography and artwork are also accepted. All writers and artists are welcome to submit their work at tangentmagazine@aol.com. See Submission Guidelines for further details. Contact the editors at: tangentmagazine@aol.com.

Tangent Literary Arts Magazine is also greatly involved in community service and volunteer work. We support many charitable organizations including Featherweight Inc , Navajo Child Drive, Buffalo City Mission, and Family-to Family. If you would like to help us help others, please check out the organizations' websites to learn more about the people they serve.

Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone who colors outside the lines, writes honestly, challenges the status quo, and defies expectations. Individualists, nonconformists, perfectionists. People who are persistent, determined and motivated, who never stop trying and NEVER settle for less than they deserve. Anyone with a story to tell, an experience to share. Anyone who shares our love of words, chewy candy (swedish fish anyone?), chai lattes, and used bookstores.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

A great poem does things to you. Divine and nearly frightening things, like knotting up something inside you, or making your heart slip into an erratic beat, or catching your breath, or causing tremors, fevers, daydreams, sweats, inexplicable bliss.
Congratulations to the winners of TSP’s Annual Poetry Contest!
First Prize: “Northward” by Koh Xin Tian
Second Prize: “Sock Puppet” by Malcolm R. Campbell
Third Prize: “Reunion: 30 Years Too Late” by Lana Maht Wiggins
