It all began in 2006.
Björn Nyberg met Mårten Larsson and the two decided to merge their talents in a project that forever would redefine the meaning of musicianship.
Some would argue that synthesizers and trumpet is an unusual combination, but the partnership proved to be the first stepping stone towards what is now one of northern Europe's finest musical acts.
Change however is, as we all know, ever-present. The duo needed to recruit more hands and managed, by no small feat, to hire the services of the flamboyant guitar wizard Svenna Granit. Jonas "Eels of Pleasure" Olsson was also added to the band to keep "the beat flowing" on electronic style.
During the bands rookie year, numerous singers and bass players were called on, but few were chosen. In early 2007 Olsson departed and in-demand session drummer Håkan Åkerblom was persuaded to join in. Åkerblom's steady hands gave the band a whole new structure and enabled Nyberg to turn to his first love, the bass.
Many creative jam sessions followed, songs were written but the band was still without a name.
At the time, Nyberg was lending a hand to mixing a record with legendary flute virtuoso Simon Jensen and his band. This lead to Jensen's percussionist Lars Rosengren teaming up with the Nyberg-Larsson-Granit-Åkerblom constellation. He soon left however, but Jensen himself was impressed by what he heard and decided to join the group.
At this time the band had chosen a name, Tangle.
Founding member Mårten Larsson eventually left to pursue a different career, and with nine days remaining before an important live gig in Gothenburg, the band went looking for a horn player. Through singer Johnny Violente they found saxophone supreme Phil Mauritzson. Mauritzson's vibrant tenor was a big hit with the crowd and the show was a success.
Much like Blood, Sweat and Tears forty years ago, no definite label sticks to Tangle. This all star Nordic combine encompass the unique talent of the individual musician, yet the sum of its parts gives the listener a sense of a perfect musical body. Through the band's characteristic jam sessions jazz, rock, classical and folk music are married to form great songs, and perhaps even standards of tomorrow. Enjoy!
