I struggle daily with my addiction to Argentine tango. I do most all kinds of ballroom and latin dancing and enjoy watching modern and even ballet, but the tango has consumed my very being. When I'm not dancing, I'm a gamer, both video and tabletop. When the weather is nicer, I ride my bike everywhere and visit the desert and mountains around Oregon. I'm slavishly devoted to my music collection, which constantly expands under my vigilant and discriminating ear.
Music
As a alternative tango DJ, I actively broaden and acquire as diverse a set as possible. Every style and genre has something to offer, and I enjoy listening to the best of everything, whether it's Sepultura, Public Enemy, Chopin, Hank Williams or Yo La Tengo. But these days, my favorite bands include Floater, The Mutton Birds, Dead Can Dance and Tool.
Movies
I worked in a video store for a year and did my best to educate myself on cinematic history. Most people would identify me as a movie geek, but to a real movie geek, I know I'm an amateur. Hell, my favorite movie is the collective 'The Lord of the Rings'. To a real movie geek, that's like saying 'Titanic' is the greatest movie ever made. I still haven't seen many foreign directors like Bergman, Fellini or Goddard.
My ever rotating top 10 at the moment I type this are:
1. The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)
2. The Big Lebowski (1998)
3. Band of Brothers (2001)
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
5. Do the Right Thing (1989)
6. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
7. City Lights (1931)
8. A Clockwork Orange (1971)
9. Paths of Glory (1957)
10. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Television
The advent of television available on DVD has actually convinced me to watch various shows. Joanne and I tend to pick a series and watch it through to the end. 'Star Trek the Next Generation' remains an all time favorite, but 'The X-Files', 'The Sopranos', 'Firefly' and the first few seasons of '24' have all helped define my pop culture identity. Currently, we're watching the new 'Battlestar Gallactica'.
Books
I mostly jive with popular physics and eastern philosophy, especially books that combine them like 'The Dancing Wu Li Masters'. I'm kinda a WWII junky, so anything by Stephen Ambrose turns me on. The last fiction that really stuck with me was 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman.
Heroes
Bill Hicks. If you are not familiar, I'd suggest correcting that as soon as possible. A simple youtube search will do the trick. If you're a frequent visitor to my house, I'll help introduce you next time you're here. Trust me, it will all be okay.

About me: Every so often, an urge wells up inside: time to drop everything, ritualistically cleanse myself of all worldly possessions and attachments, move to the desert and study zen, living off rice and nuts and the occasional elk that I hunt down.
It was great seeing you. You are so much fun. I'm about 100pgs into the Ethical Slut and it is, indeed, really good. lotsa good.
I had so much fun dancing with you, especially on Tuesday. it would make me so happy if you could send me the list of songs you DJed. I've had Dancing in the Moonlight stuck in my head for a week and need a change.
