Hey now, and welcome.
If you haven't visited my other You Bloom page, 'The Big Dig', (www.youbloom.com/web/tango) please do, for a musical tour of the '70s era that preceded Shadowfax's move to LA and all that followed. It offers a musical chronology of the first ten years of the bands life in Chicago, and ends in 1982 with our heading out on tour in support of our first recording for Windham Hill Records. I've been asked if I'd be willing to offer the next chapter of the story, and I thought that since the CDs are all out there to hear, it would be more interesting to do so with archival recordings of live shows. The current posts are from two shows in 1986 and'88 at 'Wolf Trap' in Arlington Virginia, and feature Chuck Greenberg on woodwinds and Lyricon synth,Stuart Nevitt on drums, G.E.Stinson on guitars,Charles Bisharat on violin,Dave Lewis on keys, and yours truly on bass. If you were there.....deja-vu. And thanks for being such a great crowd. (1986 songs can be heard at www.youbloom.com/web/papa.)
As on 'The Big Dig', a lot of what will be here, will be previously unreleased, and in many cases unheard live recordings of performances. The sound quality will range from 'board mixes' to handheld devices, but the focus will always be on the playing. Might I suggest that your libation of choice and a good set of headphones will go a long way towards compensating for any technical shortcomings.
The eclectic nature of Shadowfax's music in the 80's resulted from the melding of many diverse musical influences and experiences over the years. So I hope you will enjoy. I'll also be substituting songs from different shows from time to time, so come on back. And as always please feel free to leave a comment or just say hi.
Cheers,
P. Maggini
Can we make requests???? Would love to hear live versions of Phil's later pieces like "The Spirit Door", "Remembrance""Castaneda's Boogie", "Duet" and some G.E. pieces that i'm not sure were ever played live like "The Big Song" and "Move The Clouds", "Marie"...just in case they exist... Thanks! Gary
