Santiago Cimadevilla was born in Buenos Aires and from a young age performed in several bands as a guitarist before studying classical piano at the Consevatorio Municipal Manuel de Falla. He is currently a member of Flautango and the tango quintet Racing Club Tango with whom he performs across Europe as well as appearing as guest soloist with numerous orchestras.

Peter Lawson has appeared as soloist with orchestra, in recital or for the radio throughout the UK and in Europe, Japan and Russia. With a repertoire stretching from the baroque to contemporary jazz, his many commercial recordings include Satie (for EMI and awarded a Silver Disc), American Sonatas (Virgin Classics) and Michael Nyman's Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He works regularly with the Equivox Trio, is a senior tutor in piano at both Chetham's School of Music and the RNCM and is an examiner for the Associated Board.

James Manson has been principal bass of the Northern Chamber Orchestra for sixteen years and works with all the major orchestras in the north as well as appearing regularly with the Scottish Ensemble. He appears on most of the NCO recordings (Naxos) and also enjoys working as a composer and arranger having written musicals for schools and jingles for BBC radio.

Tom McKinney studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Craig Ogden and Gordon Crosskey and since settling in the northwest has established himself as a versatile performer regularly working with all the major orchestras. He is sought after as a new music specialist, often performing with the UK's leading groups such as Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Psappha, 10:10 and Continuum. As a founder member of the experimental group The House of Bedlam, this season he has played at the Cutting Edge and Huddersfield Festivals.

David Routledge studied at the RNCM before choosing the diversity of a freelance career. He is currently a member and occasional leader of Manchester Camerata, Northern Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Viva. He has made numerous broadcasts in this country and abroad as chamber musician and soloist as the violinist with Psappha as well as several recordings.

   About Tango 5
Tango 5 brings together some of the finest musicians in the north of England alongside internationally acclaimed bandoneon player Santiago Cimadevilla to play the music of Astor Piazzolla in the ensemble for which it was originally intended. Their collective experience of performing to the highest level and a passion for the music of Piazzolla creates a freshness and spontaneity to bring the music alive.

The live tracks in the music player are from a concert at Lancaster University's Great Hall in February 2009.
