besides my own shit, at the top of my list is Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Eek A Mouse, and pretty much any old-school reggae and dub (not so much today's dance-hall rip-off shit or reggaeton, except for stuff coming straight out of Jamaica). I also love any kind of ska, whether it be english beat or rancid.
i love Latin music, of course, especially cuban and afro-cuban salsa and mambo (it's in my blood, baby!). i love benny more's mambos. i can't sit down if he's playing. also bolero, samba, rumba, merengue. I also dig the gypsy kings because they mix it all up.
moving on, i am a very big fan of jam music. Phish, The String Cheese Incident, widespread panic, Moe, Medeski, Martin and Wood, the grateful dead, of course. i love it all. the blues, in all forms.
CSNY, Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Who, Janis Joplin, Santana, deep purple, Boston, Warren Zevon, BTO, War, Lynard Skynard, The Black Crowes, AC/DC, Van Halen, Blondie. how about I just say i dig on classic rock.
funk and soul also do it for me in a big way. James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, Tower of Power, earth, wind and fire, the meters, aretha, al green, stevie wonder, kc and the sunshine band (sorry, they were funky as hell), the brothers johnson, george benson, etc.
i enjoy just about all oldies music, from doo-wop to old shcool R&B, psychadelic 60's, British Invasion, 70's pop, disco, heavier stuff, prog rock like king crimson, and experimental shit like mahavishnu orchestra and frank zappa.
I didn't think I'd ever refer to '80's music as oldies, but let's face it, it's oldies now! pil, new order, and the sugarcubes stand out for me, but i was into it all. pop, new wave, punk rock, and all the shit MTV was playing that you'd never hear on the radio until MTV played it, like Haircut 100 and The Fixx, Adam and the Ants, the Psychadelic Furs, Flock of Seagulls, Big Country, Madness, Duran Duran, The Cure, INXS, Depeche Mode, Eurhythmics (I love Annie Lennox!).
90's music was pretty lame overall, except for hip-hop (which was only jammin' back then, like Rob Base, Naughty By Nature) and there were also some great club/dance artists like Black Box and what not. and I've got to mention 311, one of my fave bands, also sublime, Lauryn Hill, No Doubt, Chilli Peppers, Life of Agony, Metallica (I know, their career started in the '80's, but they rocked straight through the '90's and all the way up to the present), Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, guess I should throw in Madonna since she's been around since forever but really came into her own in the '90's, also Michael Jackson. sorry, he just makes me wanna dance.
heading into this century i've gotta start with techno/dj/electronica/rave music. yeah! Daft Punk, Rabbit in the Moon, Paul Oakenfold, Union Jack, Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim, Frankie Bones, Thievery Corporation.
and today's music??? Wait, I've gotta go puke...
Movies:
EE GADS! Another long list of faves. any Monty Python, all Terry Gilliam (Time Bandits, Brazil, 12 Monkeys, The Fisher King, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, And Now for Something Completely Different, all the MP flicks he did, etc.), any Mel Brooks, lots of David and Jerry Zucker (Airplane, Naked Gun, Kentucky Fried Movie, etc.), all Farrely Brothers (Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin, Osmosis Jones, Shallow Hal, etc.), all Richard Linklater (Dazed and
Confused, Waking Life, Slacker, School of Rock, etc.), some Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Pi), anything Russell Crowe's been in, anything Nicole Kidman was in, anything daniel craig was in (you have to see enduring love), anything daniel day lewis was in, anything Harrison Ford was in, so let's also say all the Star Wars movies (yeah, even the new ones), my fave movie of all time is probably What's Up Doc?, What the Bleep Do We Know? (rent it, it's mind-blowing), Fight Club, all Hitchcock flicks, the 5th Element, Friday ("You got knocked the fuck out!"), the Nutty Professor (I'm sorry, but those scenes at dinner with the family where Eddie Murphy plays all the characters makes me bust a gut time and time again! "C'mon Cletus!!! Don't let the grey hair fool you, I 'aint no easy win, nigga!"), the Matrix movies, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Triplets of Belleville, Flatliners, movies from my youth like Stand By Me, The Lost Boys (hells yeah!), the goonies, et, all the new breed comedies like 40 Year Old virgin, knocked up, superbad, the first american pie, road trip, eurotrip, etc.
of course i love all the movies I've been in...strange things happen at sundown (2003), Bill Zebub's Metalheads (2002), Stereotypes Just Don't Diappear into Thin Air (2005), Worst Horror Movie Ever Made (2005), How Many Times Has This Happened to You (2001), skits-o-phrenia (2004) and many more skits of Bill Zebub's that were more like Jackass type of fun only years before Jackass was a bulge in it's daddy's pants.
most guy ritchie flicks (lock, stock, and two smoking barrels, snatch, revolver) as well as most jason statham flicks like crank and the transporter, the bank job, london, the guy ritchie movies he's done. he's just amazing as far as doing his own stunts, kick-ass martial arts moves and fight scenes, but also being a total beginner at acting yet coming off like a veteran. i think he's great and look forward to seeing whatever new movies he's in. guess i should also mention vinnie jones while i'm on the subject. he was great in mean machine, and all the guy ritchie flicks.
anything Ewan Macgregor was in, anything Liam Neeson was in (except Darkman!), anything Christian Bale was in, anything wil farell was in, all chris farley flicks, some Steven Soderberg (Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Solaris, Traffic, Far From Heaven, Full Frontal, Ocean's 11 and 12, Erin Brokovich, etc.), any Coen Brothers (Raising Arizona, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, The Hudsucker Proxy, The Man Who Wasn't There, Intolerable Cruelty, Barton Fink, no country for old men, etc.), some paul thomas anderson (there will be blood, magnolia, boogie nights), all Quentin Tarantino, as a writer, director, producer (like including stuff he wrote only, True Romance, Natural Born Killers, etc), any Kevin Smith, Sling Blade, My Left Foot, Quills (and pretty much anything Geoffrey Rush was in), anything Johnny Depp was in, lots of Tom Hanks movies. all Adam Sandler movies, anything Madeline Kahn was in, all pixar movies like A Bug's Life, Ice Age, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, ratatouille, and some old shit like A Clockwork Orange (also one of my all time faves) as well as any Stanley Kubrick (Full Metal Jacket another fave of mine), alice, sweet alice, Heavy Metal, all Woody Allen movies. he kills me. ok, time to quit. I could die filling this section out completely! Television:
i Don't really watch much tv (prime time or network stuff), except for my one and only addiction, Dexter!
but I do love Jackass, the Wild Boyz, Viva La Bam, South Park, The Daily Show, love just about all bbc shit like Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Young Ones, bottom, Fawlty Towers, and Absolutely Fabulous (ABFAB), Tenacious D, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, robot chicken, and other stuff on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Wonder Shozen, Team Sanchez, just about anything on Comedy Central. I loved mtv's liquid television and watched it religiously when it was on (10 yrs ago) and have a vhs tape of some of the best shorts from that show. I also dig VH-1's and E!'s funny shows like Best Week Ever, I Love the '90's and their cool countdown shows like Top 50 Smart Asses of all time, 50 most awesomely bad songs of all time, etc. I also love watching Animal Planet shows and pretty much anything on any Discovery Channel, National Geographic channel, the Science Channel, equator hd, and ultra hd.
Books:
The Power of Now, Be Here Now, the Kama Sutra, American Psycho, Stephen King's Dark Tower series and pretty much any of his stuff, the Celestine Prophecy, Conversations with God, A Clockwork Orange, War of the Worlds, Brave New World, all C.S. Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia, the Four Loves, the Screwtape Letters, etc.), any Phillip K. Dick, Tolkien, Dickens, Jane Austen, Hemingway, George Orwell, John Steinbeck, Thomas Hardy, and although he didn't write books, Shakespeare is one of my favorite authors.
Heroes:
See my first paragraph in the "I'd like to meet" section, but leave out Che Guevara. he was interesting and unique, and a hero to some, but not to me or any other cuban. and although I'm not religious in any way, I'd defintiely say Jesus was a hero. he pretty much defines the word.
Influences
elaine: I'd been singing along to the radio and my dad's records and 8 tracks since as far back as I can remember. He had albums by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Janis Joplin, Santana, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and The Doors and listened to mostly oldies radio stations, so that music and those artists were my earliest inspirations and the reasons I became an artist. I've been performing since age 7 and always knew music was my life. As I grew older I found I was primarily interested in and moved by music that was socially and spiritually focused, such as my biggest influences, Bob Marley, John Lennon (and the Beatles), and Pink Floyd. Phish and the Grateful Dead have also had a huge impact on me as an artist and a person. I've been musically inspired by funk, soul, and R&B artists such as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, P-funk and Aretha Franklin. Latin music also has influenced me, specifically Afro-Cuban, as my mother is Cuban and I was raised listening to some of the most influential Latin artists like Benny More. I began studying classical piano at age 11 and was musically educated at Westminster Choir College (classical, choral music, opera, voice performance) which afforded me the opportunity to perform at such presitigous, legendary venues as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center (NYC) under world-famous conductors like Leonard Bernstein, Robert Shaw, and Ricardo Muti. I have been performing and recording professionally as a vocalist for over 10 years. infernophonic: Each member of infernophonic has their own unique musical tastes and influences. Kevin, Pat, and ross are true metal heads who have also been influenced by many other diverse artists ranging from Blue Oyster Cult and Iron Maiden to Graham Central Station, Black Sabbath, Steve Vai, Bootsie Collins, Steve Harris, The Meters, jimi hendrix, john paul jones and Peter Tosh, and I have been influenced by artists ranging from Phish and P-Funk to Bob Marley and CSNY, 311 to Pink Floyd, yes to john lennon and the beatles, and vocalists such as Martha Wash, Ann Wilson, Brad Delp, Steve Perry, Cyndi Lauper, and annie lennox. Infernophonic's main influences range from Betty Davis (Miles Davis’ ex wife and former mistress of Jimi Hendrix), James Brown, P-Funk, and Sly and the Family Stone to Rage Against the Machine, Led Zeppelin, the Chili Peppers, Deep Purple, and heart.

NEW JERSEY ROCKERS OFFER A PRISTINELY RECORDED, MIXED AND MASTERED CD OF HARD ROCK ORIGINALS. FRONTWOMAN ELAINE TUTTLE HAS A SET OF TONSILS ON HER, AND AT TIMES SHE CONJURES COMPARISONS TO GRACE SLICK, ANN WILSON AND OTHER BALLSY BANSHEES. HER BANDMATES ARE EQUALLY GIFTED; PAT PIEGRAI'S RIFFS AND RIPS ARE IMPRESSIVE, AND DRUMMER WILLIAMS GENERATES BUCKETS OF PERSPIRATION.

RANTS AND RAVES
THIS ROCKING SET FROM NEW JERSEY'S INFERNOPHONIC IS JAM-PACKED WITH BIG ROCK RIFFS THAT JUST REEK OF LES PAUL'S PLUGGED INTO LOUD-ASS TUBE AMPS. GUITARIST PAT PIEGARI DISHES UP CRUNCH THAT SHOULD BE RIGHT UP THE ALLEY OF FANS OF OLD-SCHOOL ROCK LIKE KISS, UFO, AND GUNS N' ROSES. HE PROVIDES DELICIOUS STRAT TONES AND WAH WORK ON "HEAR ME" AND SERVES UP FUNKY MAJOR KEY FARE ON "TAKE AIM" BEFORE LAUNCHING INTO A GREAT NECK-PICKUP SOLO. THE FUNK-ROCK CONTINUES ON THE EFFECT-LADEN "INVISIBLE SLAVES," AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF PIEGARI'S ABILITY TO MESH BEAUTIFULLY WITH BASSIST KEVIN BOLEMBACH. IN FACT, THE TWO CONSISTENTLY LOCK IN AND GROOVE FOR A BREATHING, LIVE SOUND THAT WILL REMIND YOU OF WHEN MUSIC WAS PLAYED BY BANDS. - MATT BLACKETT

august 6 2008
INFERNOPHONIC WAS FORMED IN 2006 BY FORMER NON-FICTION BASSIST KEVIN BOLEMBACH. AFTER RECRUITING ELAINE TUTTLE (VOCALS), PAT PIEGARI (GUITAR), AND ROSS KANTOR (DRUMS) FROM THE TALENT-RICH NEW JERSEY ROCK SCENE, INFERNOPHONIC BEGAN WRITING AND RECORDING THIS DEBUT ALBUM WHILE PERFECTING THEIR LIVE PERFORMANCE. INFERNOPHONIC CAME TO MY ATTENTION A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO WHEN I STUMBLED UPON THEIR MYSPACE PAGE AND ‘EYE OF THE JEDI’ STARTED PLAYING ON THEIR MYSPACE PLAYER. I WAS IMPRESSED RIGHT AWAY WITH THE ENERGETIC VOCALS OF TUTTLE AND THE FUNKY HARD ROCK STYLE THE BAND HAD GOING, ‘JEDI’ ALMOST SOUNDING LIKE A RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE SONG. NOW I’M NOT A BIG FAN OF RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE BUT THE “BIG” SOUND THE BAND HAS, ALONG WITH THE STAR WARS REFERENCE IN THE TITLE, REALLY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION.
THE MUSIC ISN’T HEAVY METAL, MORE LIKE ’70S STYLE HARD ROCK WITH A LITTLE BIT OF FUNK MIXED IN. PIEGARI HAS THIS HEAVY, SOMETIMES DISTORTED, GUITAR SOUND THAT BLENDS THE BEST OF JOE PERRY AND TONY IOMMI WITH TOM MORELLO. THERE IS A THICK GROOVY CRUNCH TO THE RIFFS AND THE SOLOING IS PURE AND MELODIC, CHANNELLING THE BEST OF THE ’70S GUITAR MASTERS WITH THE HYBRID STYLES OF TODAY’S GUITAR HEROES. BOLEMBACH AND KANTOR ARE A FORMIDABLE RHYTHM SECTION WITH A THUMPING FUNKY BASS THAT COMPLIMENTS THE GUITARS AND A POWERFUL HARD DRUM SOUND THAT ISN’T OVERDONE, JUST PLAYED WELL. YOU CAN HEAR SOME INFLUENCES FROM FLEA (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), GLENN HUGHES & ROGER GLOVER (DEEP PURPLE), AND DEFINITELY LES CLAYPOOL (PRIMUS) IN KEVIN’S BASS PLAYING, THAT’S A REALLY COOL MIXTURE. THE FLEA AND CLAYPOOL COMPARISONS ARE EASY TO DECIPHER BUT, BEING A SERIOUS PURPLE FAN, I COULD ALSO HEAR THAT FUNKY HUGHES AND/OR GLOVER BASS FROM THE ’70S. (BOTH PURPLE BASSISTS ARE COMPLETELY UNDER-RATED, ESPECIALLY GLENN HUGHES, WHO IS USUALLY RECOGNIZED MORE FOR HIS GIFTED SINGING VOICE THAN HIS BASS PLAYING.) ROSS KANTOR PLAYS HIS KIT WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE SONG. HE HAS A STRONG BEAT BUT HE DOESN’T OVERPLAY OR OVERPOWER THE OTHER MUSICIANS, HE PLAYS IN THE POCKET AND SUPPORTS THE RHYTHM. A LOT OF DRUMMERS TODAY TRY TO DAZZLE WITH HOW FAST THEY CAN HIT THE SKINS BUT KANTOR OPTS FOR MORE GROOVE WITH HIS POWER. AS I MENTIONED, ELAINE TUTTLE IS VERY IMPRESSIVE ON THE MIC, SHE HAS THIS REALLY POWERFUL, ENERGETIC VOICE THAT REMINDS ME OF HEART’S ANN WILSON. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TUTTLE AND MANY OF HER PEERS IS THAT SHE IS A PURE ROCK SINGER, SHE’S NOT OPERATIC OR ATMOSPHERIC, SHE JUST SINGS WITH POWER IN HER VOICE AND ALSO RETAINS THE MELODY.
THE ALBUM KICKS OFF AGGRESSIVELY WITH ‘ANYONE ELSE’, THE BAND IMMEADIATELY PROVING THAT THEY ARE HARD ROCK WITH SOME QUICK RIFFS AND AN HIGH POWERED RHYTHM. TUTTLE COMPLETELY ATTACKS THE MIC AND THE GUITAR SOLO IS VERY GOOD. A QUICK DRUM FLURRY OPENS ‘SAY WHATCHA MEAN’, ONE OF MY FAVORITES ON THE ALBUM. THE BAND GOES FOR A SIMPLER MAIN RIFF AND A CATCHIER, REPETITIVE CHORUS WHILE THE BASS AND DRUMS REALLY DRIVE THE SONG. THERE’S A SMALL BREAKDOWN JUST BEFORE THE SOLO THAT QUICKLY SOUNDS A LITTLE PURPLE-ISH WITH WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A HAMMOND ORGAN BUT COULD BE THE BASS? ‘MIDDLE OF THE ROAD’ CONTINUES THE AGGRESSIVE HARD TONE SET BY THE FIRST TWO SONGS BUT ‘KARMAKAZE’ FINDS A MID-PACE GRIND THAT TUTTLE EXPLOITS VOCALLY TO THE POINT SHE’S BLOWING OUT OF THE SPEAKERS!
THINGS PICK UP SPEED AGAIN WITH ‘TAKE AIM’ BUT IT’S MORE OF A FUNKY, DARE I SAY ALMOST DANCEABLE, TYPE OF SONG. THERE’S A REALLY COOL GROOVE TO THE SONG THAT MAKES IT READY FOR ROCK RADIO, VERY ACCESSIBLE AND FUN. WHEN THE GUITAR SOLO HITS I NOTICED A LITTLE EDDIE VAN HALEN INFLUENCE IN THERE. I WOULD PUT ‘THANK YOU’ AND ‘KARMAKAZE’ IN THE SAME BOAT AS FAR AS THEY ARE BOTH MID-PACED AND HAVE A POWERFUL VOCAL BUT THERE IS THIS SPACEY GUITAR EFFECT AND THE COOL BASS LINE ON THE SLOWED DOWN CHORUS THAT REALLY ACCENTUATES THE BEAUTY OF ELAINE’S VOICE. THE FUNKIEST SONG HAS TO BE ‘INVISIBLE SLAVES’ BECAUSE OF THE BASS, I CAN JUST PICTURE BOLEMBACH’S FINGERS RUNNING UP AND DOWN LIKE FLEA OR LES CLAYPOOL. ‘BE HERE NOW’ HAS A ’70S CLASSIC ROCK FEEL WITH SUBDUED GUITAR TONES THAT SOUND LIKE AN ORGAN/KEYBOARD WHILE THERE IS ANOTHER FUNK FEEL TO ‘HEAR ME’ SIMILAR TO ‘INVISIBLE SLAVES’ EXCEPT THAT THE PACE IS SLOWER, THERE ALSO SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE INFLUENCE IN THE GUITAR PLAYING. THE PACE SPEEDS UP WITH ‘WE DON’T NEED IT’ FOR MORE A MORE STRAIGHT UP HARD ROCK STYLE WITH TUTTLE USING HER MORE AGGRESSIVE VOCAL STYLE AND PIEGARI USING A CLEANER EDGE TO HIS SOLOING. THERE IS A REALLY COOL BASS AND DRUM SOUND ON ‘YEAH YEAH YEAH’ AND THE VOCALS HAVE THIS DARK EDGY ASPECT BUT THE CHORUS IS A LITTLE TOO SIMPLE MAKING IT A DISAPPOINTMENT BUT ‘EYE OF THE JEDI’ ENDS THINGS ON A HIGH NOTE WITH IT’S RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE STYLE ALONG WITH A LITTLE BIT OF RAP. I’M DEFINITELY NOT A FAN OF RAP BUT FOR SOME REASON IT WORKS FOR ME ON ‘JEDI’.
BOTTOM LINE:
INFERNOPHONIC IS ONE OF THOSE BANDS THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REACH OUT TO A GOOD CROSS-SECTION OF MUSIC FANS: HARD ROCK, MODERN ROCK, AND EVEN POP FANS CAN FIND SOMETHING TO LIKE ON SPARK IT UP. I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED TO HEAR MANY OF THE SONGS ON THIS ALBUM ON TODAY’S ROCK RADIO. THE MUSICIANSHIP IS TOP NOTCH, EACH MEMBER PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENT EXTREMELY WELL AND BLENDING TOGETHER TO FORM A SOLID WALL OF INTERESTING SOUND. I WAS TAKEN IN BY THE VARIED BASS LINES AND GUITAR SOLOS THROUGHOUT THE ALBUM BUT THE SHINING STAR IS SINGER ELAINE TUTTLE WHO PUTS ON A GREAT PERFORMANCE THAT WAS UNEXPECTED IN IT’S AGGRESSIVENESS AND TECHNIQUE. A BAND CAN HAVE THE GREATEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD BUT IT MEANS NOTHING IF THE SINGER SUCKS, ELAINE TUTTLE IS A GREAT ROCK SINGER. I WOULD PUT HER IN THE SAME COMPANY AS JULIE WESTLAKE (HYDROGYN) AND VERONICA FREEMAN (BENEDICTUM), ANOTHER TWO FEMALE HARD ROCK SINGERS THAT ARE AMONG MY FAVORITES.
FAVORITE SONGS: ‘SAY WHATCHA MEAN’, ‘MIDDLE OF THE ROAD’, ‘KARMAKAZE’, ‘TAKE AIM’, ‘THANK YOU’, ‘EYE OF THE JEDI’

INFERNOPHONIC IS THE BRAINCHILD OF FORMER NON-FICTION BASS PLAYER KEVIN BOLEMBACH AND WAS FORMED IN EARLY 2006. THE GROUP ALSO FEATURES THE TALENTS OF GUITARIST PAT PIEGARI, WHO IS A REAL FRETBOARD MASTER, SINGER ELAINE TUTTLE, WHOSE POWERFUL VOICE MAKES HER FEAR NO OTHER FEMALE ROCK SINGER, AND DRUMMER ROSS KANTOR, WHO IS FAR FROM PLAYING STRAIGHT AND SIMPLE. ALREADY HAILED BY EXPERT MAGAZINES LIKE GUITAR PLAYER AND GUITAR WORLD THE QUALITY OF THE GROUP NOT ONLY COMES FROM INSTRUMENTAL SHOWCASES BUT ALSO FROM THE FACT THAT THEY ALSO KNOW HOW TO WRITE REAL ROCK SONGS. ACCORDING TO SONGWRITING THEY MAINLY CONCENTRATE ON GROOVE-LADEN HARD ROCK MIXED WITH FUNK LIKE THE LATE DEEP PURPLE WITH COVERDALE AND HUGHES DID, LIKE GLENN HUGHES STILL DOES AND LIKE EXTREME OR MR. BIG DID. LISTENING TO THE ALBUM SOMETIMES I WAS ESPECIALLY REMINDED OF THE LATTER ONES AND THOUGHT THAT ELAINE ALSO COULD COMPETE WITH ERIC MARTIN. THIS COMPARISON ALSO WOULD FIT WELL BECAUSE MR. BIG ALSO FEATURED NOT ONLY A GUITAR WIZARD BUT ALSO A BASS WIZARD - THAT..S EXACTLY THE SAME WITH PAT PIEGARI AND KEVIN BOLEMBACH. BUT NOW TO THE ALBUM AND THE SONGS: THE OPENER "ANYONE ELSE" IS RHYTHMIC FUNK ROCK THAT WOULD MAKE THE CHILI PEPPERS BE PROUD OF AND SHOWS THE LEAD GUITAR TALENTS OF PAT FOR THE FIRST TIME. NEXT FOLLOWS A REAL SMASH HIT WITH "SAY WHATCHA MEAN" WITH A SUPERB CHORUS AND PARTLY WITH DOUBLE BASS DRUMMING (!). I SHOULD NOT FORGET TO MENTION THAT YOU CAN HEAR KEYBOARDS LIKE A HAMMOND ORGAN AS WELL (OR IS THIS REAL?), THOUGH THERE..S NO HINT WHO..S PLAYING HERE. "MIDDLE OF THE ROAD" IS ALSO GROOVY FUNKY HARD ROCK THAT SETS FREE A LOT OF ENERGY. "KARMAKAZE" BREATHES A BIT OF PURPLE ATMOSPHERE, WHILE "TAKE AIM" IS FUNKY HARD ROCK STUFF REMINDING A BIT OF MR. BIG..S GLORY DAYS. "THANK YOU" CARRIES THE SPIRIT OF MR. BIG AS WELL AS A BIT OF LED ZEPPELIN. THIS ONE IS ALSO A BIT SLOWER, GROOVIER AND OFFERS ROOM FOR ELAINE TO DEMONSTRATE HER CHARACTERISTIC VOICE. "INVISIBLE SLAVES" IS ALSO GROOVE-LADEN FUNK ROCK. LISTENING TO THE OPENING RIFF OF "BE HERE NOW" YOU COULD THINK THIS IS DEEP PURPLE, BUT THAT CHANGES SHORTLY WITH ELAINE..S VOICE COMING IN. "HEAR ME" IS FUNK ROCK WITH WAH WAH GUITAR AND SHOWS AGAIN THAT THIS GROUP PLAYS ON A HIGH ENERGETIC LEVEL AND I BET THEY CAN MAKE YOU SWEAT IN A LIVE SITUATION. "WE DON..T NEED IT" FOLLOWS IN THE GROOVE-LADEN FUNKY HARD ROCK FOOTSTEPS. "YEAH YEAH YEAH" COMES WITH A POUNDING BASS LINE AND HYPNOTIC VOCAL LINES AT ONE PART, JUST TO DRAW THE SONG TO A MORE ENERGETIC LEVEL WITH THE NEXT PART. THERE..S ALSO ONE PART WHERE GUITAR AND BASS PLAY WELL TOGETHER. "EYE OF THE YEDI" CLOSES THE ALBUM AND HAS A RHYTHM LIKE A PULSE, AGAIN ALSO SHOWS GUITAR AND BASS PLAYING LINES TOGETHER LIKE WE KNOW WELL FROM MR. BIG. ALSO THIS ONE IS A BIT EXPERIMENTAL, GOING INTO RAP VOCALS. HOW TO SUM IT ALL UP? WELL, THIS ALBUM IS FULL OF RHYTHM, GROOVE AND ENERGY, BUT IT..S ALSO HARD ROCK STUFF. I GUESS IF YOU HAVE READ THIS REVIEW CLOSELY ENOUGH AND ARE A FAN OF ALL THE NAMED BANDS, YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO. I COULD ADD THAT THIS ALBUM HAS NO FILLER. NEED I SAY MORE? NO? A VERY STRONG RHYTHMIC SOUND PULSES THROUGH EACH SONG ON THIS CD. GRABBING MY ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY ARE THE VOCAL CHOPS POSSESSED BY THE BAND ’S FEMALE SINGER, ELAINE TUTTLE. HER VOICE IS SOULFUL, POWERFUL, FILLED WITH SPIRIT AND LOTS OF CONFIDENCE WITH EVERY NOTE SHE BELTS OUT. TRULY ONE OF THE STRONGER FEMALE VOICES I’VE HEARD LATELY. NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED, THE MUSICIANSHIP OF THE ENTIRE CD IS ROCK SOLID. THE SONGS ARE WELL WRITTEN AND THE PRODUCTION IS TOP NOTCH WITHOUT BEING OVERLY POLISHED. IF YOU’RE INTO POWERFUL FEMALE VOICES CHECK OUT INFERNOPHONIC BECAUSE TUTTLE HAS THE CHOPS AND WON'T DISAPPOINT.

THE MULTI-GENDER QUARTET INFERNOPHONIC WELDS ITS CLASSIC-ROCK INFLUENCES INTO A MODERN SOUND THAT FUSES ZEPPELIN WITH THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. THINK WOLFMOTHER FRONTED BY HEART'S WILSON SISTERS. ELAINE TUTTLE'S SOULFUL, TOUGH-CHICK VOCALS (WHICH HAVE DRAWN COMPARISONS TO ANN WILSON AND GRACE SLICK) PERFECTLY SUIT THIS SWAGGERING, SOMETIMES SLUDGY SWIRL OF MELODIC, FUNKY HARD ROCK THAT EVEN THE RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE-LIKE FINALE "EYE OF THE JEDI" CAN'T DETER.

Spark it Up garnered 4 1/2 out of 6 stars
THE GENTLEMEN THAT ARE BACKING UP SIREN-ON-THE-JOB ELAINE TUTTLE ARE EACH, IN THEIR OWN RIGHT, EXTRAORDINARY MUSICIANS THAT BRING A FUNK’D UP BRAND OF CLASSIC ROCK THAT HOLDS THE MIDDLE GROUND BETWEEN A HEAVY MOTHER’S FINEST & THE ROCKER IN GLEN HUGHES WITH INFLUENCES RANGING FROM THE VINTAGE FLEETWOOD MAC OVER JIMI HENDRIX TO RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE… UP FRONT, BEHIND THE MIC, WE CAN MAKE THE ACQUAINTANCE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED, NOBLE UNKNOWN ELAINE TUTTLE. AN AWKWARD NAME BUT WHAT A PRESENCE & WHAT A VOICE! HOLD ON TO HER, GENTS, THIS ONE IS GONNA GO PLACES!

The sounds of Infernophonic burn away the conventions and pretensions of an ailing industry, leaving behind a groove-laden, hook-heavy molten core that captures all the spirit and splendor of classic hard rock.
Formed in early ’06, Infernophonic is the brain-child of Kevin Bolembach, former Bassist for NJ doom-rock legends Non-Fiction. Seeking an outlet for his 70’s style sub-sonic assault, Bolembach cherry-picked the tri-state’s most formidable musicians to reincarnate the classic power trio of yesteryear. Lifting guitarist extraordinaire Pat Piegari from NYC femme-metale.. Lourds and A-list drummer Ross Kantor from his seat behind a plethora of area acts, all that remained was to find the voice that could contend with this awesome amount of firepower – enter Elaine Tuttle.
It's impossible to deny Elaine Tuttle's impressive, singular voice. With seemingly unlimited vocal ability she delivers clever, catchy, courageous melodies with unrelenting energy and cool confidence, bringing to mind legends like Aretha and Janis; Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar. A multi-dimensional creator of profound sounds both rhythmic and lyrical; inspiring and inspired; passionately powerful and deeply soulful, Elaine is much more than simply a singer - she is her voice.
A collection of diverse talents with a common goal, Infernophonic embodies the concept that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. The band members draw their inspiration from a laundry list of influences as wide ranging as Black Box and Black Sabbath, as diametric as Yes and No Means No. Unlike bands that “Frankenstein” multiple genres into unwieldy musical monsters, Infernophonic is unique in its ability to seamlessly blend a variety of sounds and styles into a potent presentation. Not easily lumped into the convenient categories of today, Infernophonic more readily draws comparisons to the multi-tasking rock giants of the past such as Deep Purple, Heart, and Led Zeppelin.
Following a long string of incendiary live shows around the northeast, Infernophonic caught the ear of Soulive drummer Alan Evans, who offered to produce the band’s debut album. “Spark it Up” was recorded and mixed at Applehead Studios in Woodstock, NY – a world-class facility that has housed such multi-platinum acts as Coheed & Cambria, King Crimson, and Modeski, Martin & Wood. Applehead’s blend of coveted vintage gear, clandestine recording techniques, and cutting edge mixing technologies proved to be the perfect vehicle for capturing Infernophonic’s ferocious live energy and preserving it for all to hear. Mastering at award-winning Turtletone Studios in NYC provided icing on an already tasty audio treat.
The material on “Spark it Up” highlights Infernophonic’s ability to locate a common denominator among various musical styles and multiply it to exponential effect. Expansive song structures spotlight the individual talents of each member as both songwriters and musicians without detracting from the power or performance of the band – a rare feat accomplished by few save the greatest of ensembles.
Musically adroit without overindulgence; heavy without the metal and effectively infectious without selling out to the pop (sub) standard so many other groups are ruled by, “Spark it Up” offers something for every listener. Whether it be fiery guitar solos that channel Hendrix (Thank You) and Page (Take Aim); Deep, dirty Bass grooves that span styles from Maiden (Yeah Yeah Yeah) to the Meters (Hear Me); or a pounding backbeat that would make Bonham (Karmakaze) or Paice (Be Here Now) proud, Infernophonic manages a spontaneous synthesis of sounds that runs the range of the audio alphabet from Audioslave to ZZ Top.
At the apex of this molten mountain of music sit the eloquent, effluent words of Elaine Tuttle. Her logical, accessible lyrical approach invites provocative pondering of universal themes that affect our lives daily. Whether inspiring self-love and independence (Anyone Else) or raising awareness and inciting action against inequity (Take Aim), Elaine fearlessly wears her heart on her sleeve to exemplify the benefits of self-expression and communication (Hear Me, Say Watcha Mean), boldly delving deep within to face the most basic human fears (Karmakaze, Be Here Now). Elaine leaves no social stone unturned, sharing a wealth of experience and wisdom reminiscent of her primary influences - Bob Marley and John Lennon.
Able to melt and meld a diverse audio arsenal to create a new sonic experience that excites as it ignites, Infernophonic is a breed apart – indefinable, undeniable, unforgettable. Spark one up, then “Spark it up” and embrace the fire.
