Interests

  • General

Books, writing, crafts, sleep, being creative, gardening, & veiwing the world through my kids' eyes.

  • Music

Everything, ok not country so much

  • Movies

Napoleon Dynamite!!! Any 80s Molly Ringwald and/or John Cusack type, Big Fish, O Brother Where Art Thou, the Vacation movies, most anything that makes me laugh. Oh, and dear God, how I love Star Wars! All of 'em.

  • Television

SNL, American Idol, Boston Legal, Scrubs, Daily Show, Colbert Report, etc. Nothing too deep and nothing requiring commitment, talk shows, news magazine shows, home improvement shows, Discovery Health, and (God help me) Court TV for all those cop/murder shows

  • Books

Love 'em. Read mostly classics as I have such little time to read - can't waste my time with wannabes. My favorites consist of early Mark Twain, Gone With the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, Count of Monte Cristo, Lolita, most Kurt Vonnegut. I love character-driven stories and bizarre scenarios. I like books where I fall in love with the people and miss them when they're gone. I also have a soft spot for tales of innocence and/or naivete.
  • Heroes

Those who continue to laugh in spite of adversity, those who continue to try in spite of fear...

Plus my dad, who died 11/14/05. He was courageous enough to travel the world as a ship captain, and he was courageous enough to move to NOLA from Norway to be with Mom. He saved me many times in many ways. I love you Dad, and I miss you.

Here's some stuff you didn't really want to know:
    * I am still not fond of balloons. They're unpredictable and scary.
    * As a kid, I used to have friends tie me up in a chair so that I could practice escaping and dialing a phone with my mouth just in case I ever got kidnapped. I have to say that I'm disappointed in today's cell phones; the buttons are just too darn hard to press with the tongue. Are you listening, Samsung?
    * My dream is to have an apothecary's garden with a Boo Radley tree.
    * I once decided that instead of licking the filling from Oreos, I would fill the two chocolate wafers with a record amount of the white stuff and eat it in one entire bite. Using a whole sleeve of Double Stuffs, I made a cookie that easily stood a foot high. Then the fatal flaw - I couldn't fit it entirely into my mouth. I had to turn the cookie on its side and eat only a fraction of it, but it sparked a dream of someday filling a toothpaste tube with the white stuff. Uh... Nabisco?
    * Proof that God wanted me to be lazy was that I was born with long toes. I used to think nothing of picking up dropped items with them until my brother fussed about it back when I was in high school. Now everything stays on the floor. Thanks, Erik.
    * I miss Shakey's Pizza!
    * I finally found an online IQ test that tells me I'm gifted. Finally! So 1 out of 10 online scientists agree that I'm smart!.
    * My favorite colors are green and brown. Probably due to my love for nature. And doggone it, I love brown shoes.
    * I have never bought a lottery ticket.
    * My travel is limited to the following states: Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Texas. Since being married, I've only been to Mississippi thrice - once to run the Gulf Coast Marathon, twice to go camping with my cub scouts.
    * I can't be left alone with Doritos or coke.
    * I still don't know what I'm going to be when I grow up, but I'm hoping to grow up real soon.
    * I usually sleep on my sofa and set my oven timer for an alarm. Now when dinner is ready, I get angry.
    * Fight or flight? Always flight.
    * Fall is my absolute favorite season, and cool weather makes me so freaking happy!
    * I am usually stuck with every kid in the neighborhood at my house.
    * I would love to be out in the woods right now just admiring nature.
    * Over twenty years ago, I saw a fellow on either Real People or That's Incredible who went to school to become a sandwich artist. In the clip, he said that all sandwiches must have mayo on the bottom under the meat and all other condiments on the top of the meat, and all this time I've complied - until recently. On a whim, I put mayo on the top of my sandwich. Guess what? I could hardly tell the difference.
    * The ultimate hiking trip would be to Kjeragbolten.
    * Most of my favorite people live in this box.
    * I currently subscribe to over 70 blogs. I do enjoy reading, but I'm not likely to pick up any new subscriptions anytime soon. If you really, really want me to read your stuff, let me know. Maybe I can squeeze you in, but you'd better be bringing the goods.

About me:

Psssst! Howdy, all. I'm always happy to have new friends, so long as you're not selling something or trying to seduce me. My last name is Landry. Go ahead - add me. I dare ya!

My gift to the world:

Because I have a new camera, I decided to create an About Me video. I will admit that it is not great, but it is my first attempt at editing. And a minor correction - Chinese medicine is CHI GONG. Not sure what I said in the video, but I think I was ordering some lunch. Anyhoo, if you're interested in seeing way too much about me, then clickeroo:

Tanya's current events

This week's topic is Catching Up (Maybe. Kinda.)

Dang, I miss this place. In fact, I miss socializing altogether. It's just not the same anymore. I guess this is one of those big societal moments when there is a shift in focus, likely caused by the bad financial situations and the change in government and stuff. Regardless, people just have changed so much. Guess I have too.

MySpace has survived for the kiddos though. While the adults are thinking of other things, the kids can still come here and chat with one another.

So... My mind has been on other things lately. I am hoping to get things caught up around the house. Emily is going to HIGH SCHOOL next year, and I'm sure she'll be wanting to have more people over. My house has become more open lately. I would have happily stayed away from people forever, but people have found me. And my house is crap. I'm not one who cares about such things until I know others will see it. Hmmm. Does that make me a hypocrite? Kinda?

Well, the plan was to type up an update as I used to do. I once would sit and words would pour from me. But I really have nothing to report so words just won't come. Plus I'm out-of-practice.

I look forward to a summer without running around. I will be babysitting pretty often which may eventually be problematic, but for now it's cool. The next three months should simply consist of kid watching and house projects.

Dang, has anyone missed me? At all? Anyone notice my absence? Well, you can always come find me on FaceBook. I'm not there too often either, but you are more likely to find me there than here. So, tell me hi sometime, okay?

One more thing - some other places where you are likely to find me running my mouth are:
Lunacy, Light, & Lagniappe
From My Cluttered Desk to the Chaotic World
Twitter

Dang, I talk too much!

Who I'd like to meet:

YOU!
