I write for teens and young readers. A BAD BOY CAN BE GOOD FOR A GIRL was my first YA book is a poetry novel, and I write nonfiction and picture books for kids, too. A BAD BOY CAN BE GOOD FOR A GIRL came out in Jan. 06 in hardcover (the pink one) and is coming out with this hot new cover in paperback June 12th.
BONUS: it will have a Reading Guide in the back for all those who want to ponder the deeper meaning of questions like, "Hey, why doesn't the bad boy have a name in this book?" and "Are you sure you're a feminist?" Oh yeahh, I'm sure. ;-)
It's gotten starred reviews and been called "Sure to be the new FOREVER" by Cynthia Leitich Smith, "the kind of tell-it-like-it-is wisdom that comes from your best girlfriends," by Libba Bray, "brave and beautiful" by Megan McCafferty and the next "Vagina Monologues...for the teen crowd" by Beliefnet.com.
Oh!, and it was an ALA Quick Picks choice, a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age, and is nominated for ALA's PPYA (Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults). And the fabulous state of Texas has put it on their Texas Tayshas Reading List and Maryland has put it on the Maryland Great Books for Teens 2006 list!
This just in: Bad Boy is on the 2007-2008 Kentucky Bluegrass Award Master List!
A couple random things about me: Before I went to Oberlin for English and Voice, I went to a performing arts high school. I started a perishable food rescue program and carted 500 pounds of food around in my car every day, and recruited my friends to do the same. I'm kind of addicted to Wild Berry Skittles and chocolate-covered pretzels. I hate the word "tasty" and love the word "splendiferous." But that's just me.
Readers, writers, teachers, librarians, anyone with an interest in YA lit.
Please note: Although this page is dedicated to YA lit, it may on occasion attract a younger reader. Please consider this when making your friends request and posting comments.
I finally got my hands on your book and ingulfed it in a day. It was a realistic, cut to the chase read that made me think about how dating is not this simple 1-2-3 process that movies make it out to be. Thanks for writing such a great book and I am certainly going to recommend to fellow girls.
Thanks for friendship! I hope you're having a great summer! Your book looks great! I'm so excited for my YA series to come out in September. I hope you'll check it out!
I got into grad school today! I'm really excited. I don't think I told you before but..
I'm getting a masters in corporate communication and public relations, to use when I want to work in publishing. I plan to do independent study or my thesis on the marketing of books to children, on the internet or in general. So my interestes have converged!
