Music
..
Just about everything except rap, hip-hop, country-western, mainstream jazz, emo, techno, and middle-of-the-road, mind-numbing pop. I have an affinity for alt-rock, alt-country, indie pop, indie rock, 80's "New Wave," college, bluegrass, and classical.
Three CDs I just can't stop listening to right now:
1. Narrow Stairs - Death Cab for Cutie
2. Una Sangre/One Blood - Lila Downs
3. Automatic for the People - R.E.M.
I was listening to A Prairie Home Companion the other day and I heard the most amazing musicians. The Indiana University Violin Virtuosi (a group of violinists aged 13-18!) played Kreisler's "Praeludium and Allegro." Gave me goose bumps, man. You can find it on the PHC archives from the Feb. 16, 2008 show. The entire show was awesome. Go listen!!

Books
..
I ♥ reading! Huge bookworm and happy to be so. I have a pretty varied taste in lit, but I absolutely don't do Romance, most Sci-Fi/Fantasy, most Mystery (except Agatha- she rocks), most horror, cutesy-putesy, heart-warming crap. I like reading books that make you think and keep you guessing.

"All streams flow to the sea
because it is lower than they are.
Humility gives it its power.
If you want to govern the people,
you must place yourself below them.
If you want to lead the people,
you must learn how to follow them.
The Master is above the people,
and no one feels oppressed.
She goes ahead of the people,
and no one feels manipulated.
The whole world is grateful to her.
Because she competes with no one,
no one can compete with her."

Yo soy Jenny Ramirez, Jenny Hansen in a previous life...
Heck yeah, that sounds like an awesome plan! Maybe I can come help out when I have time off! I'm just planning on chasing frogs until the monsoons are over and fine tuning my research proposal! Doing some grant writing too... I've had some major changes going on over here, but seems like I'm finally seeing some light :) I need to come visit soon!!! Welcome back! XO
Hey Jenniformes! Are you back yet??? I love your pictures, your family looks so cute and happy :) We have lots of catching up to do! I can't wait to hear more about Mexico!!! Give me a call sometime, kay! Love you and miss you tons!
hey chica!! are you in back in nuevo mexico?? i'm heading back this afternoon (i'm still in texas, and let me tell you, this is the worst halfway place to be between guatemala and the states....ick....) anyway, i know you're gonna be busy, busy, but drop me a line if you ever a find a minute or two! i have surprises for you, too!!!
BABY! Love you and miss you too! :D I get these moments where I realize I'm going to have you and Karlos here, and I get super giddy and giggly. I'm going to be insufferable waiting for your plane to land in Oakland. :P
Geez, you get on here more than me and you're in Mexico! I am so out of touch lately. Thanks for the nice picture comment, do you really think she looks like me? You can be honest:) Hope all is well!
I spy on your house too. Mostly because I want to see how long that awesome dead pumpkin will show up in your yard... ;) Kidding! (I do spy on your house, though :P)
Hey, someone entered a pic of a rotting pumpkin into the May Fair's photo contest this year and I was like "SEE! I'M NOT SO WEIRD!" And then I was informed that yes, that is indeed weird. :P
Yeah, I'm supposed to be watching a biofuels lecture and doing my econ final. And here I am...farting around as well (though in my defense, I AM sorta buying my summer term textbooks at the same time, so...that balances it out, right? :D)
I am DYING that July is so far away! I keep getting little jolts of giddiness. :D It's been HOT (107*F) here the last couple of days and it smells like mid-July, and it keeps getting my hopes up. :P
Luckily, my dirty secret is still safe! ha! so, you got all your stuff together for mexico? i wish i could help you out, i checked hotwire and the airline to see if i could refund my ticket, but no luck...:(
Hey beautiful Jenniformes! I had so much fun at lunch with you and our homies the other day!!!! I can't tell you how happy I am to hear I'll have a few more opportunities to harass you :) Love you tons!
Hola!! How is your summer going so far? Mine is going to be extremely BUSY!! But all worth it! I'm teaching the first 4 weeks of yoga at eastern for the summer. Then, I'm teaching at Fitness&More 4 times a week.(2morning sessions & 2 nite sessions) Plus, 3 classes at the Portales Recreation Center not to mention the Distance Ed. classes. And on top of all that I am bringing in a guest dancer from Rhajastan India to teach a weekend Multi-Cultural workshop with yoga & dance. I am so excited about it. It will be a great treat to have her here. This event will be in July. Will you be around for the summer? I thought you were taking off? Well, keep me updated and I will keep you updated. Maybe I will see you in yoga sometime, or at least in Spirit. All my best, Yolanda
