    Tao of Coffee's Interests
General..

Coffee, of course, music, reading for pleasure, hiking, mountain climbing, the natural world (especially wildlife), energy, water, and natural resource conservation, yoga, meditation, learning new things, photography, the Pacific Northwest, chillin' with my homies, drinking a fine wine, listening to NPR, Wikipedia, learning to speak Espanol, ASL, Deaf culture, Mexico, spirituality, immersing myself in all things Landscape Ecology, Mehndi, laughing my ass off in Herpetology lab, geeking out whenever possible, getting to know my feminine side, trying to find googlewhacks, artists, purveyors, and collectors of assquatch

I am nerdier than 91% of all people. Are you a nerd? Click here to find out!

I support:

Obama 08

Plant a tree, if you can! (It's only a dollar a tree.)

Music..

Just about everything except rap, hip-hop, country-western, mainstream jazz, emo, techno, and middle-of-the-road, mind-numbing pop. I have an affinity for alt-rock, alt-country, indie pop, indie rock, 80's "New Wave," college, bluegrass, and classical.

Three CDs I just can't stop listening to right now:

1. Narrow Stairs - Death Cab for Cutie
2. Una Sangre/One Blood - Lila Downs
3. Automatic for the People - R.E.M.

I was listening to A Prairie Home Companion the other day and I heard the most amazing musicians. The Indiana University Violin Virtuosi (a group of violinists aged 13-18!) played Kreisler's "Praeludium and Allegro." Gave me goose bumps, man. You can find it on the PHC archives from the Feb. 16, 2008 show. The entire show was awesome. Go listen!!

Movies..

Okay, I pilfered this from A's myspace as well because it made me laugh like I want it to make you laugh!

Fav. Films:
Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Singles, Clue, A River Runs Through It, Love Actually, The Shining, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Little Buddha, National Lampoon's Vacation, The 5th Element, Pump up the Volume, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, Adaptation, Joy Luck Club, The Goonies, Empire of the Sun, The Silence of the Lambs, No Country for Old Men, The Princess Bride, The Horse Whisperer, My Family/Mi Familia, Gleaming the Cube, The Witches of Eastwick, Chances Are, Raising Arizona, Brokeback Mountain, V for Vendetta, Can't Buy Me Love, Full Metal Jacket, Say Anything, Alien, Selena, Garden State, Kill Bill Vol. 1&2, Elizabethtown, Harry Potter movies, American Beauty, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?, Donnie Darko, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Closer, Better Off Dead, Sling Blade, Like Water for Chocolate, Reservoir Dogs, An Officer and a Gentleman, Stand by Me, Pan's Labrynth, Dances with Wolves, Dumb and Dumber, Meet the Parents, Rocky Horror Picture Show

Television.. Twin Peaks
The quality isn't good, but it's a gem of a clip:

....

Here's the continuation if you're hooked:

....

Old school: Northern Exposure, The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead, Ren & Stimpy, Sex & the City, Designing Women

Network tv: Jeopardy!, C.S.I., House, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, The Biggest Loser (all of these watched very occasionally), way more Law & Order than should be allowed by law (ha!)
Books..

I ♥ reading! Huge bookworm and happy to be so. I have a pretty varied taste in lit, but I absolutely don't do Romance, most Sci-Fi/Fantasy, most Mystery (except Agatha- she rocks), most horror, cutesy-putesy, heart-warming crap. I like reading books that make you think and keep you guessing.

Fav. Writers: Tom Robbins, John Irving, Annie Proulx, Christopher Moore, David Guterson, Barbara Kingsolver, John Steinbeck, Norman Maclean, Joyce Carol Oates, Amy Tan, Nicholas Evans, J.K. Rowling, Wally Lamb, William Least Heat-Moon, John Bellairs, "vintage" Stephen King/Anne Rice

About me:

"All streams flow to the sea
because it is lower than they are.
Humility gives it its power.

If you want to govern the people,
you must place yourself below them.
If you want to lead the people,
you must learn how to follow them.

The Master is above the people,
and no one feels oppressed.
She goes ahead of the people,
and no one feels manipulated.
The whole world is grateful to her.
Because she competes with no one,
no one can compete with her."

-Chapter 66, Tao Te Ching

Doing some grant writing too... I've had some major changes going on over here, but seems like I'm finally seeing some light :) I need to come visit soon!!! Welcome back! XO

I would've licked the horses's ass if they'd have let me hang around in the corral afterwards. They shooed me out though because I was in the way.

I spy on your house too. Mostly because I want to see how long that awesome dead pumpkin will show up in your yard... ;) Kidding! (I do spy on your house, though :P)

Hey, someone entered a pic of a rotting pumpkin into the May Fair's photo contest this year and I was like "SEE! I'M NOT SO WEIRD!" And then I was informed that yes, that is indeed weird.

Yeah, I'm supposed to be watching a biofuels lecture and doing my econ final. And here I am...farting around as well (though in my defense, I AM sorta buying my summer term textbooks at the same time, so...that balances it out, right? :D)

I am DYING that July is so far away! I keep getting little jolts of giddiness. :D It's been HOT (107*F) here the last couple of days and it smells like mid-July, and it keeps getting my hopes up.

Hola!! How is your summer going so far? Mine is going to be extremely BUSY!! But all worth it! I'm teaching the first 4 weeks of yoga at eastern for the summer. Then, I'm teaching at Fitness&More 4 times a week.(2morning sessions & 2 nite sessions) Plus, 3 classes at the Portales Recreation Center not to mention the Distance Ed. classes. And on top of all that I am bringing in a guest dancer from Rhajastan India to teach a weekend Multi-Cultural workshop with yoga & dance. I am so excited about it. It will be a great treat to have her here. This event will be in July. Will you be around for the summer? I thought you were taking off? Well, keep me updated and I will keep you updated. Maybe I will see you in yoga sometime, or at least in Spirit.
All my best,
Yolanda
