when i was 11, i used to record music on a little tape recorder and pretend i was a rock star. i did about 18 tapes full of music (!), and put it to rest when i turned 16.
as i got older, i started to focus on writing and design, but still longed to record again. so i bought a boss dr-202 drum machine after hanging out with maniquinn and went from there.
and here is tape loop, a project i started to see if i could still get music out of my head. electronic, dj-shadow inspired music with spoken word poetry as the foundation.
the first record, minimalism. 9/2005. 20 tracks, 55 minutes. lo-fi, a little spoken word. with a song about having 359 babies. everything (mostly) played live. a bit amateur-ish. i wouldn't lie to you.
the second record, dealate. 11/2005. 29 tracks, 69 minutes. concept album. featuring a song about eating pancakes. better beats, lots of samples of me as a kid (taken from old tapes), more spoken word, weird guitar effects.
the ep, stargazing. 2/2006. 7 tracks, 11 minutes. for amanda. even better beats. figuring out more about the recording process.
the third record, escapism. 9/2006. 19 tracks, 60 minutes. another concept album, tie-in with my third book, symbolism (coming soon.). surround sound, better samples, better beats, better poems. recorded after obsessively listening to kate bush and dj shadow's older work.
