About me:
Bore da!

Taplas, the voice of folk in Wales and the borders, has been a constant presence on the folk music and traditional arts scene for the past twenty four years.

Having grown from an initial quarterly publication, the magazine is now published bi-monthly, and is packed with up to the minute news, reviews and features on folk music and artists from around Wales and the borders, as well as further afield - UK, Europe, and the rest of the globe - in the traditional music and arts scene.

The magazine also produces a free cover-mounted CD of the best of the traditional music scene twice a year, on the June/July and October/November issues and a free guide to the year's folk festivals of the UK and Europe in the April/May issue.

Details on the current issue, subscriptions, where to purchase your copy, back issues, and selected past features can be found at our website: www.taplas.co.uk
Who I'd like to meet:
People and groups with an interest in and love of folk music and the traditional arts from all over the globe, and not just in our catchment area - be they signed or unsigned musicians, morris dancers, arts bodies or organisations, promoters, other magazines in the same genre, or even festivals.

Magical multi-instrumentality, superb songcraft, new comedy and award winning performance poetry, all from some of Wales' most charismatic women performers in the biggest Yurt in Wales, on an Autumn evening! And no credit crunch excuses for not being there - the price is whatever you want to put in the Meltdown Hat!

STACEY BLYTHE
A one-woman meltdown, Stacey Blythe plays harp/whistles/keyboard/ accordion etc in internationally acclaimed Welsh folk band Ffynnon. Stacey has performed with Billy Bragg, Meredith Monk, Michelle Shocked, and rising American singer Pamela Wyn Shannon (at last months amazing Meltdown) to name but a few.
"Blythe's versatility shines at every note" Radio 2 Folk Reviews.

RACHEL TAYLOR BEALES
Her latest album Red Tree - produced by Welsh troubadour Martyn Joseph - takes British folk as its starting point, adding in hypnotic, echoing vocals, subtle strings and country/blues tones to create something entirely new.
'Highly Recommended" BBC Radio 2's Bob Harris
"hauntingly beautiful’ Acoustic Magazine

CLARE POTTER
One of Wales’s most successful performance poets, lived and taught in New Orleans for many years and has won the John Tripp award for spoken poetry.

PAMELA WYN SHANNON (Massachusetts USA)
Listen to the myspace tracks off her acclaimed Courting Autumn album, then imagine hearing them live, in the biggest Yurt in Wales, on an Autumn evening! Heaven! Pamela played with the likes of Solas, Lunasa & Klezmatics, before finding her own unique solo voice and dazzling guitar technique. She sups from the same well of 70s psych folk as Fleet Foxes and like them creates something original and timeless.
www. myspace. com/pamelawynshannon

"infused with the feel of halcyon early-70s UK psych-folk, but arguably even more timeless: it transplants English Gothic into New England …The combination of unusual instrumental detail and finely-honed poetic imagery provides some stop-you-in-your-tracks, neck-prickling highlights … a breath of fresh autumn air …seriously beautiful ". fRoots magazine

LONE PINE (acoustic)
"Rootsy country-tinged rock 'n' roll in the manner of Wilco, The Jayhawks etc ... beautifully executed" Venue magazine
"raised somewhere in the dustbowl on a diet of coyotes, bourbon and heartbreak" Metro Newspaper - Gig of the week (Barfly headline show)

A celebration of folk-world instrumental virtuosity featuring BBC Young Folk Awards 2008 finalists One String Loose (who, being in their teens, are actually younger than Meltdown!), Koto-guitar duo KotoGo featuring the superb Japanese Koto player Hiroko Sue, melodeon maestro Guto Dafis and guitar wizard Danny Kilbride, and astonishing young jazz/folk/blues guitarist Adrian Hughes. A melting down of generations bringing together the best and the newest in Welsh (and Japanese) Folk.
