before anyone could attempt
such a thing to do to you
i would pick you up,
running away
to my quiet hiding place.
i would tear open my chest,
my ribcage teeth,
placing you inside my heart
sewing it all up tight.
waiting for the moment
when all is gone -
except for dreams,
warm wet contentment,
and a dark comfort.
and then sadly
undoing the stitches,
pulling you out,
and keeping a small secret copy
inside.

in dream
in song
a million dreams

in dark rooms
through secret windows
quiet
like that first time
and all around the night whorls
plumes of smoke
words unspoken
as if to breathe
would break them
and us
and as we ascend the stairs
my fingers break
too close to touch
the violence is beautiful
i swallow your tongue
to keep you from speaking
to keep you from saying something
that should be unspoken

PROVERBS 9 13 The woman named Folly is brash.
She is ignorant and doesn’t know it.
14 She sits in her doorway
on the heights overlooking the city.
15 She calls out to men going by
who are minding their own business.
16 “Come in with me,” she urges the simple.
