I see something in people. I see something in their families. It is the same something that I want to capture in my own family, in my own children. I strive to capture it for you too.
Photography is more than my job, it is my goose-bumps-tears-jump up-and-down-on-my-bed-passion. I have an eye for family photography that goes way beyond the traditional white shirts and jeans. I am not out to create the "flawless traditional portrait". Life isn't flawless. I am looking to capture your life. Leave the perfect hair and  clothes at home. I would prefer to see you just as you are—beautiful! Show up in your favorite jeans and tousled hair, your child with a lollipop-stained mouth. Relax. Have fun. Be real. Be alive. Be in love, and loving each other. Perfectly imperfect.
My work has been described as contemporary and hip. I think of it as quirky, emotional, and happy. I am a young mother of four and I have been photographing the big and little people in my life for the last seven years.
When we meet, show up with your heart. I can't wait to meet it.
Please direct any interest emails through my website, or tara@tarawhitney.com. thank you!
Who I'd like to meet: anyone who likes to make me laugh and can forgive my short moments of insanity.
Hi Tara! David and I received the photos....OMG!!! We love them, and cannot wait to proudly hang them in our home. THANK YOU so much!!! Love and Hugs....Jen :)
Hey Tara, come watch two of the OC Roller Girls teams battle it out for their second birthday. July 12th in Irvine with an after-party at RA Sushi. Let me know if you want details or tickets. The bout is kid-friendly, but the after-party is adults only. - K
It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot, but I was just happy to get outta dodge for a few days... I'll be focusing more on Fine Art photos in the near future - I've got a booth at ArtWalk08. Very cool.
Hello Miss Tara. I was at the Secret Workshop last weekend and when we were told that we would have a special guest (besides Jinky, which we already knew) the whole table of ladies I was sitting with couldn't stop gushing and hoping it was you (since they knew you lived close). None of them had ever met you. Needless to say, they were crushed. Tara Groupies. Thought you'd get a kick out of it.
a while ago i think you had a link on your blog about a woman (& her children) who sprinkled some love around their town by leaving little happy fortunes/messages for others to find.
i thought i had bookmarked it, but cannot find it anywhere. do you know anything about it? (please say yes, please say yes...)
hahahah thats hilarious well we had the VERY BACK of the plane and it was the worst turbulence i have EVER been in. i literally thought it was the end of my life.
""Beautiful Mommies on myspace! Once you've been hit, you have to hit 8 awesome Moms. If you get hit again you will know that you are really beautiful (or just have the same friends as...your friends..)! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, really. But it's always nice to hear that someone thinks you're Beautiful!
Before I was a Mom I never learned the words to a lullaby.
I never thought about immunizations. Before I was a Mom - I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Drooled on. Chewed on. Peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple little grin. I never sat up for hours watching a baby sleep.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom. Before I was a Mom - I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
I had never known the warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.
Send this to someone who you think is a special Mom, I just did.""
