WARNING: Tarihan is certainly neither a political nor an extreme ideological band, because we don't care about modernistic and materialistic ideologies!!! We don't believe in nationalism, because nationalism is a modernistic idea from the 19th century!!!

TARIHAN is one of the oldest Pagan
Metal bands of Switzerland. It's the
one-man-band of Herr T. (born in 1975),
who has got Baltic Prussian and Polish ancestors,
and who was already very interested since
the 5th primary class in the year 1986
(!) for ancient Celtic, Germanic, Roman
and medieval history and paganism,
but also for other ancient European
cultures and ages. In 1990 he decided
to play Heavy Metal music (inspirated
by IRON MAIDEN), respectively Thrash
Metal (MEGADETH, CORONER). One year
later, in the spring of 1991, he found a
one-man-project, which was actually
called PAGANS and rather sounded in
the way of Death Metal, but from a
very simple quality. After this beginning,
PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, CARCASS and
MORBID ANGEL were the new influences.
But BATHORY became finally to the
main inspiration for T., who released in
February 1993 a demo-cassette with
eight songs. The name of his band was
now MUSPILLI, because an other band
called PAGAN already existed. MUSPILLI
was still in the way of Death Metal with
a very cacophonous sound, but with some
unique Doom Metal and
rocking Heavy Metal elements.
During the year
1993, T. was more and more influenced
by the archaic spirit of the Norwegian
Black Metal, but also by the bands EUCHARIST,
DARK MILLENNIUM ("Ashore the celestial
burden"), MASTER'S HAMMER (CZ), old
VENOM and even by the fairy sound of
DEAD CAN DANCE. In the winter of 1994/95,
T. changed ultimately the name of his
band in TARIHAN, that means in Old High
German (early Middle Age) "dark" or "hidden",
but "tar/ter" has also got another ancient
Germanic meaning in connection with
forests, too. In 1995, T. has got the last
influences from the Metal scene, especially
from folk sounds (CRUACHAN, ISENGARD,
GRAVELAND, EMPEROR). Some very rare
demo-cassettes of TARIHAN were released
since 1995, one of them was titled "Among
spirits I wander beyond the mist...". After
that tape, T. considered to write the lyrics
in future in German language, sometimes
even in High Alamannic dialect (Swiss German).
Between the times T. played bass in the
Symphonic Black Death Metal band ONO
TURMNA together with three other musicians.
They released the CD "In stiller Trauer"
in the spring of 1997 on Celtic Mountains
Productions. T. began afterwards slowly to
estrange from the Metal scene and after a
last demo recording for TARIHAN in 1998,
he played for a couple of years even no
music. But he began to study with a lot of
enthusiam the complete works of the
romantic dramatist, poet and revolutionary
of music Richard Wagner (1813-1883).
T. started in 2001 to play music again and
recorded in the autumn of 2002 the green
album of TARIHAN "Hohe Tannen", that means
"High firs (fir-trees)". The reason for that
recording was "to finish ultimately the old
burden from the 90s". The CD "Hohe Tannen"
was released in 2003.
Since this release, T. is still working for a
new TARIHAN album with the title
"Bergkristall", that means "Rock Crystal".
That forthcoming material shouldn't have
any similarity to the last album ("I don't
like to record two times the same thing").
Even the vocals will be completely in a
clean and melodic bariton style with some
choirs, no more screams. Only the electric
guitar will remain as the main instrument.
So the new CD shall sound in an ultra
melodic, elevating and deeply affecting
way with new tunes and cadences, which
are influenced by the monumental romantic
music of the 19th century and still never
before heard in the Metal scene. However,
TARIHAN don't want to sound progressive.
The most important influences for TARIHAN
are nowadays apart from Richard Wagner
the monumental ten symphonies of the
Austrian "mystic of sound" Anton Bruckner
(1824-1896), besides the unique sound
spaces of the French impressionist Claude
Debussy (1862-1918) or even the keyboard
works of the baroque master of the contrapuntal
general-bass Johann Sebastian Bach, in
addition to other influences (Renaissance,
Bagpipe-music, Hard Rock).
T. doesn't feel himself anymore as a
part of the Metal scene nor as a part
of any other scene. So he refuses certainly
every unilateral orientation for dark
depressive sounds. TARIHAN want to
express the ancient pagan spirit of the
Alpine centre of Europe that strives to the
primeval Grail's light in the eternal
higher transcendental reality and cosmic infinity.
"Music is the gate to a spiritual dimension."
TARIHAN are actually NOT a political band.
TARIHAN don't sympathize with any political
party nor movement. But this apolitical
way doesn't mean that TARIHAN would
agree with each common social
consensus. Being apolitical means, to stand ABOVE all politics!
Release date for the new CD "Bergkristall":
Possibly some day in this century.
TARIHAN
"For getting a right view, it never suffices
to get a different opinion, even though it
suffices nowadays to get the same
opinion, for being wrong."
"Um richtig zu urteilen, genügt es nie,
anderer Meinung zu sein, wenn es auch
heutzutage genügt, gleicher Meinung zu
sein, um zu irren."

DER SCHLAFENDE KAISER IM BERG
(For English translation look at the blog:
"The Sleeping Emperor in the Mountain")
Zur Blüte im Hochmittelalter
war des Himmels Erdenwalter
nicht der Papst, sondern, viel weiser,
Friedrich Zwei, der Stauferkaiser.
Von Sizilien stieg er auf,
Normannenspross und Hohenstauf',
der sonnenhaft im Geist erhellt':
sein Reich war nicht von dieser Welt!
Irminen sahen mit Entzücken
auf des Krönungsmantels Rücken
- goldgestickt am Purpurkleid -
die Irmensäul' der Heidenheit.
Der edle Kaiser Friederich
beherrschte denn ganz ritterlich
Italien, Teutschland hoch zu Ross
und von Apuliens Achteckschloss.
In ehern' Harnisch stand bereit
- dem Papst zu widersteh'n im Streit -
die Ritterschaft für GOTOS Ruhm
und hehres Ghibellinentum!
Die Talschaft Schwyz - für Friedrichs Streit -
erhielt Reichsunmittelbarkeit;
so wurzelt auf des Kaisers Kraft
die Schweizer Eidgenossenschaft.
Zur gold'nen Hohenstaufenzeit,
da währte alle Herrlichkeit
und was nach höher'n Weihen rang,
wie Gralsverklärung, Minnesang.
Des Grales Licht - vom heil'gen Norden -
pflag der Tempelritter Orden;
Gotik wies zu Äthersphären,
Überwelten zu verklären...
Der Kaiser, der uns so beglückt',
ist nie gestorben, nur entrückt!
Im Berge schlafend wartet er
auf Felsenthron mit Schwert und Wehr.
Ob Kyffhäuser, ob Untersberg,
solang' das Interregnum währt,
umkreist von Raben in der Not,
da schläft der Staufer scheinbar tot.
Doch wenn umwächst sein roter Bart
den Tisch dreimal, an dem er harrt,
dann wird der Kaiser neu erwachen
und sich auf, zur Rückkehr, machen!

RICHARD WAGNER UND DER TIERSCHUTZ
(English translation below)
"Unerhörtes Werk!
Du konntest morden? Hier im heil'gen Walde,
des stiller Friede dich umfing?
Des Haines Tiere nahten dir nicht zahm,
grüssten dich freundlich und fromm?
Aus den Zweigen, was sangen die Vöglein dir?
Was tat dir der treue Schwan?
Sein Weibchen zu suchen flog der auf,
mit ihm zu kreisen über dem See,
den so er herrlich weihte zum heilenden Bad:
dem stauntest du nicht, dich lockt' es nur
zu wild kindischem Bogengeschoss? -
Er war uns hold: was ist er nun dir?
Hier - schau' her! - hier trafst du ihn:
da starrt noch das Blut, matt hängen die Flügel;
das Schneegefieder dunkel befleckt, -
gebrochen das Aug', siehst du den Blick?
Wirst du deiner Sündentat inne? -"
(Parsifal, 1. Aufzug. Tatsächlich setzte
sich Wagner für den Tierschutz ein und
verfasste eine Schrift gegen Tierversuche -
im 19. Jahrhundert!!!)
RICHARD WAGNER AND THE PREVENTION
OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
"Unheard-of deed!
And couldst thou kill, here, in the holy forest,
with peaceful stillness all around thee?
Did not the woodland beasts come nigh thee fearlessly?
Greeting thee in pious friendship?
From the branches, what sang the birds for thee?
The faithful swan, what had he done to thee?
He was but flying off to seek his mate,
to cross over the lake together,
bringing lordly benison to its healing waters.
How wast not amazed? Thou thoughtest only,
like a boy, of thy murderous bow.
We loved him: what is he now to thee?
Here - look thou here! - here thou woundedst him,
here clots the blood, limp hang the wings,
the snowy feathers dark-bespeckled,
his eye is dulled, see how he looks!
Art conscious now how thou hast sinned?"
(Parsifal, Act I. Wagner supported actually
the prevention of cruelty against animals
and wrote against vivisections - in the 19th
century!!!)
Herr Wolfram von Eschenbach
(ca. 1170 - ca. 1220):
(Parzival I, 5, 235, 15)
"nâch den kom diu künegin.

ZITATE VON KAISER JULIAN "APOSTATA":
(Flavius Claudius Iulianus, geb. 331, gefallen 363,
I am now
recording for a new set of releases called the "Persona Series". These
cassettes will be commissioned works (not by content, but by payment)
for individuals. If John Smith in London, England wants his own Zebulon
Kosted album, I will make a 45 minute album (one side of a 90 minute
tape), 2 hand drawn mini posters, I will name the album after him
(Zebulon Kosted - John Smith), and the fan will retain all rights to
the recording (for use of any future release, sampling, or broadcasting
rights). One copy of the album will remain in my personal collection,
and one will be sent to the customer, so that the only copy that will
be in circulation will be John Smiths copy! Each album is available for
the ridiculously low price of $10 (not including shipping), and will be
shipped in its completed form no later than 6 weeks from the date of
purchase!!!
