Brother Tariq I'm listening to your podcast now, thanks for adding me. I ordered 2 of your books and they just came in, can't wait to dig into them. Keep it up brother, let me know if you ever come out to Guam.
I really get what you're talkin' about with those women with processed (fake) hair and that fake swagger that comes with it, and how crazy they become because they can't ever be real.
I have to add to the sentiment with this item: It's generational and part of Black female socialization. Their grandmamma, their mamma, and all their aunties and female cousins are a bunch of fake-ass lye-soaked-hair-wearing-crazy-ass broads, and if they even think about stepping outside of that requirement of social acceptance, they will be ostracized. The same goes for every other screwed-up part of Black female socialization (e.g. Fake-ass Church-speak, Stank and uncompromising attitude with little to back it up or no real reason for the attitude, Inability to accept reproof in the face of absolute fact, etc.).
It's going to be a long time and hard work for the Black woman to change from centuries of illness to a new century of enlightenment (and I don't mean putting in a blond weave!).
So I commend you for telling them about the problems they create for themselves by continuing the curse of believing that natural Black hair is a bad thing. I am just absolutely skeptical that they will EVER change because of the amount of shame that changing to a natural track brings to them from the entrenched Black female beliefs and demands from within their own families!
Funny thing is that the few times I've seen a woman take a solid, natural track about her hair is when her mother had passed away during or before her formative years!
Keep up the good work, much respect to the amount of research you're doing, and I'll keep watching, listening, and reading, my man!
Thanks for doing the latest episode on Mack Lessons Radio where I agree with the advice and the story that has been known in the Black community. I especially agree with what you said about what men are looking for.
