Chris Bourne has garnered worldwide acclaim throughout the music industry over the past decade. He signed the “Tarrentella” project to Whoop Records in 1994, subsequently releasing such tracks as “Substance”, “Karma” and “Columbia”. He has collaborated with numerous renowned artists including: Redanka (Tarrentella Project), Danny Tenaglia (Datar Project), Sander Kleinenberg (SKTR Project) and Satoshi Tomiie (Graffik Project). He has remixed such classics as Derrick May’s ‘Strings of Life’, Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’ and the ‘Gladiator’ film sound track.
Chris however does not just make music. In 1996, along with Mike Bell and Andy Holt, Chris established the Rip Records label and The Cable Chamber recording studios. It was on this respected imprint that Chris and more recently his partner Aidan McCauley developed such acts as Soul Mekanik and Redanka. Soul Mekanik have written and produced for the likes of Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue in the last 2 years. Redanka has gone on to remix for the likes of U2, Snow Patrol and Fat Boy Slim.
By the same token Chris has toured the world over the last decade entertaining audiences world wide.Performing in Hong Kong, London, Moscow, Tokyo, New York, Buenos Aires, Sydney, Los Angeles and most recently in Miami at Shine where he was the resident dj with monthly resident Jazzy Jeff.
The second release on 'ripdigital' is Tarrentella's
follow up to his Debut release 'Jigsaw' in December 2008.
Deadly Nightshade continues where Jigsaw left off, exploring a down-low box approach, and straddling many a universe. A square bass bosses this electronic motorised machine. Eno/Lanois-esque angular chords take you back to times past, as a lullaby appears to caress you into a hypnotic conclusion. A deep intermittent groove with whispering guitar harmonics and a heavy sprinkling of e-dust takes you around the stars once again, before immersing you into a warm ocean of dub.
Tarrentella's classic Karma has been remixed by Fiord and is featured on Jim River's Global Underground NuBreed Series released on 30/03/09. Fiord,Chris Nemmo and Dale Anderson's remixes of Karma are available on Whoop Digital NOW! 09.
After four years roaming and recharging his house batteries, RIP honcho Chris Bourne returns in fighting form with a pair of deep techno outings. 'Jigsaw' builds layers of textures over deep, swirling pads while 'Adma' ups gear with subtle pulse action and Giorgio Moroder chord changes in the ringing sequences, further heightened by strings. Welcome back.

It's been a several years (4 to be exact) since Chris Bourne produced his
last Tarrentella material. If 'comeback' is the plan, then 'Jigsaw' is a
hole in one. The innocuous timbale intro quickly gives way to flash-fire
drums & beautifully restrained star-gazing melodies. As it develops things
takes a turn for the dramatic with immense single-stabbed notes bringing it
to the breathtaking snare-free conclusion. Progressive house has done some
major convalescing over the last 3 months - this is another example.

After a four year absence RIP records and indeed progressive stalwart Tarrentella return and it sees Chris Bourne showcasing a housier sound. ‘Jigsaw’ is a gorgeous deep cut with a lot of emphasis on melody in a layered beauty with a warm bassline and tight percussion. It really is a standout instrumental. Adma is slightly darker yet funkier with big a big oscillating bassline leading the way and a vocal line giving a nod to Leftfield’s ‘Original’ for those that remember it.

Well it’s great to see Tarantella back and in better form than ever. This new 2 track e.p has really caught my attention with the track called ‘Jigsaw’ so far it’s picked up support from John Digweed on his Transitions radio show and has popped up in the Coolcuts and Buzz chart. I don’t always find it that easy to describe Deep House tracks, but this is without a doubt in my top 3 for this year and is so deep, and full of atmosphere you have to get hold of a copy, it rolls along with percussive beats and a deep, warm pad in the distance before a great bass comes in, it develops musically and the atmosphere becomes more intense and really sucks you in and makes a great warm up track, bar track or just something to listen to at home.
