Call me TAS. My
day-job name is Trent Soholt, but most people have a rough time with that. Just say it slowly: “So-holt”. Or just call me TAS. Most people do. I’m an easygoing guy, and it takes a lot to get me upset or
worried, but my approach to my music is a hundred percent commitment.
I’ve been playing bass for lots of years now (when I’m not
playing guitar, drums or singing) and do a lot of song writing. Check it out!
I’ve been in an out of bands over the last 12 years. One of my first projects, Amber Dawn, had a
Number One Most-Requested Song on a Saskatchewan radio station for six weeks in
1996 (I know, you're wondering where Saskatchewan is.... right?). I wrote “Just Another Day,” sang
and played guitar. It was my first demo
and for me, it made music real. My
Amber Dawn partner in crime, Edmonton musician, producer and wizard Glen Banks
is one of the top pianists in western Canada.
He once said to me “Trent, you’re the only musician I know who will make
it.”
I worked the Edmonton music scene for a number of years
co-founding and playing in several bands called Idiot Savant, Key, and The
Drogues, and I also wrote and recorded two solo projects: Mysteries &
Certainties and Fornever. Key performed
a series of covers and originals on stages throughout Edmonton, but The Drogues
delivered an 11-song original album that was followed up by almost two years of
great live performances. We were played
on radio, received newspaper coverage, national reviews, and even some television news coverage
when, in 2004, I ran for a position on Edmonton City Council, and we also
received requests for material from radio stations, fans and online magazines
throughout North America and even some label interest. These days, though, I’m not focusing on
impressing record label executives. I’m
not just a kickass rocker, I’m a smart guy with good business sense, and I’m
not ready to sign away my rights just yet.
Instead, I make music because I love it, and I record because I want to
create something that lasts, and that other people can enjoy as much as I do.
My original music has appeared in indie films and
theatre performances, and has received semi-regular radio rotation. I’ve auditioned for some of the world’s
coolest bands and to date, I have 4 records to hang on the wall. I was even invited to audition as a singer
for the band now known as Velvet Revolver.
I love music. It’s
in me and I bleed it. My favourite line
from a movie is in Airheads: “I am rock and roll!”
I’m currently working on my fifth project, with over 30
songs being demo’d and recorded in my studio.
I’m in the process of looking for others to contribute to the project
and make it a masterpiece, an agent/manager to provide that additional cred and
the next stage to make everyone sit up, take notice, and rock on.
You haven’t heard anything yet.
