It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend Mike Halby, legendary guitarist from Canned Heat and John Mayalls Blues Breakers.
Mike was a true and dear friend and loved his visits to Stuart and Mark's house in Tasmania, Coming out from America twice in the last year of his life. Always a welcome guest onstage at Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar, it was at the Restaurant when Mike made his last onstage appearance, the previous one being at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in the USA.
We loved you and will miss you old friend.

About me: Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar located next to Richardsons Harley Davidson 468A Westbury Road, Prospect Tasmania.
The idea for Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar came about almost 2 years ago after a meeting between Stuart Wood from The Giants band and Simon Richardson from Richardsons Harley Davidson Launceston.
Stuart and Simon had been friends for many years and always wanted to do something in business together. After looking at a few different ventures they decided to create something that had never been done before. Thus Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar was born.
Stuart and Simon enlisted the help of one of Stuarts oldest friends Dee Sutherland as Head Builder along with the amazing Jerry Nuh management consultant as co-ordinator and go between for the whole project. After a few false starts, work began in ernest on Australia Day 2007. 12 weeks later the project was completed and Tassie Devils eventually opened its doors to the public on 27th April 2007.
Stuart and his long time music cohort Mark Greig (former guitarist for Australian Crawl) formed a company called El Coucho Pty Ltd and became respectable business men. However both have managed to maintain their lunatic personalities along with their normal "savoir faire".
Stuart recruited the services of firstly Isaac Mainwearing as Head Chef and Stacey Filce as Office Manager. Both of these people brought with them a wealth of knowledge and experience. After receiving over 200 applications for various positions, we were ready to open the doors from the 1st week of April 2007. Delays on permits and technical difficulties saw our opening date pushed back to 27th April 2007. From the moment the doors were open to the public both Simon and Stuart realised they had indeed created a monster.
The popularity of Stuart and Simon's dream, far surpassed anything that they could have comprehended whilst sitting on the front veranda of Simon's Dealership 2 years ago, talking about what they were going to do together.
The combination of Simon’s Harley Davidson theme and Stuart’s Rock n Roll background have made Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar an indeed unique experience.
Stuart and Simon along with Jerry decided that Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar should be about GOOD FOOD, GOOD ENTERTAINMENT and a GREAT ATMOSPHERE all with a HARLEY DAVIDSON theme.
Simon Richardson spared no expense in the actual building of Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar. Where ever possible Simon insisted on the use of Tasmanian timbers (9 different timbers in all used in the construction of the restaurant). Simon and his partner Merrilyn along with Jerry are responsible for the incredible ambience that you feel when you enter Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar.
Isaac Mainwearing's reputation as one of the best steak chefs in Australia has now been enhanced further by his incredible skills in the kitchen at Tassie Devils. Generous servings of good wholesome food, using Tasmanian produce where ever possible, has made Tassie Devils Restaurant & Bar the most popular eatery in Launceston.
Stuart and Mark co-ordinate the entertainment side of the restaurant and bring to the table over 30 years of musical knowledge and professionalism to the customers. They play at the restaurant on a regular basis along with many well known national and local performers.
