WORLD RENOWNED and celebrity tattoo artist Mario Barth is the owner and chief tattoo artist at Starlight Tattoo, the premier international tattoo organization with four high-end tattoo studios and the online tattoo supply company called, The Tattoo Super Store. Starlight Tattoo sells merchandise in 28 countries on six continents. Amazingly, in the six years since its inception in the US, Starlight Tattoo has generated one of the fastest growing clientele with more than 15,000 customers; making it one of the three most successful tattoo studios in the world. In fact, The National Tattoo Association named Starlight Tattoo "the best tattoo studio worldwide."
IN ADDITION to his four New Jersey studios - the only OSHA approved tattoo studios in the nation - Barth is presently working on the construction of two more US studios, four European studios and one in Asia. Barth also invents cutting-edge products for the industry. He is the creator and manufacturer of the first-ever sterile single dose inks (Singlez?) which contain his world renowned Intenze Ink Tattoo Colours. Setting new standards for safety and health in the industry, Intenze Colours are the hottest inks in the business.
KNOWN IN the tattoo industry as the foremost innovator and trendsetter, Barth is the winner of over 200 international awards and has an extraordinary celebrity clientele, including Lenny Kravitz, Jason Kidd, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, members of My Chemical Romance, members of Ill Nino, radio host Wendy Williams, comedian Rich Voss and NFL Giants' players Jermaine Taylor, Kendrick Allen and David Diehl.
BARTH, NAMED one of the most influential artists in the history of tattooing, hosts the annual Biggest Tattoo Show on Earth, a tattoo and piercing expo which draws crowds in excess of 25,000 - the largest collection of tattoo artists in the world. Due to its extreme popularity, Paisano publications have dedicated an entire annual magazine (in three languages) based solely on the expo.
BARTH BEGAN his career over 20 years ago as a teenager in Austria. After training for several years, the Austrian native opened his first tattoo studio in 1989. Barth opened the first of its kind upscale tattoo studios in Detroit and Miami Beach, before settling down in New Jersey. In 1999 he opened Starlight Tattoos in Fair Lawn, NJ. That same year he opened a store in Paterson, NJ, followed by a store in Belleville, NJ in 2001 and in Rochelle Park, NJ in 2005. And in 2005, Barth created and served as editor-in-chief of Starlight Tattoo's first trade magazine.
BARTH CURRENTLY acts as consultant and practitioner for Hackensack Cosmetic Surgeons for reconstructive micro pigmentation on cancer patients. He created a series of special inks for use in reconstructive surgery to help patients adjust with a more natural dermal appearance after major operations.
SOME OF Barth's many awards include: The 2005 Goldminds' Innovation of the Year - awarded to only one recipient each year, of which only three have been tattoo artists; Artist of the Year, for seven consecutive years; Best of Show; Best Tattooist; Best New Style; Best Freehand Artist and Best Overall.
Richie Calascibett was born and raised as an only child in Belleville, New Jersey. His role models while growing up were Rocky and Bullwinkle. He loves to relax by doing one of his hobbies, fishing, working on his 1971 Buick GS or on RC models and just hanging out with his wife.
"For as long as I remember, I've always wanted to be a tattoo artist" says Richie. Tattooing for 15 years, he states that many different artists and their styles influenced him in his career as well as the industry evolving over the years. His family is happy with his career choice, especially with the fact that it got him out of the house.
On the first tattoo he ever did, Richie comments "I wanted to puke". Even though his first experience was not pleasant, he has gone on to perfect his passion. Richie says "I will love doing until the day I die". He challenges himself to learn something new everyday and tries to make every tattoo the best he can. His goal is to give his client something custom that means something to them whether it's personal or in a style they prefer.
On the topic of tattooing minors he remarked that he couldn't be certain if a minor would have the ability to make a right choice. As far as parents opposing their children getting tattoos, he warns them to be very careful in telling them no, because without support and guidance they might go to an unqualified artist with no training and who doesn't care.
Richie has many tattoos himself; he got his first tattoo at the age of 18 and claims it's gone and forgotten. He has gotten many tattoos that he regrets. His favorite tattoo is his chest piece by Pili Mo'o that has many meanings behind it. He's proud of it because he had to earn it.
Respect, passion, and loyalty are what Richie feels strongly about in life. He describes a typical workday as FUN as well as a typical day off. He loves every kind of food and loves to eat out at any restaurant. His favorite TV show is "Overhaulin" because they do amazing things and make many people happy. Richie's favorite music is Reggae because it relaxes him, classic rock and 80's metal. His fantasy dream car would be a "65, "66, or "67 Nova with 1000 plus horsepower that would hit 200 mph.
When asked about his opinion on the war in Iraq his thoughts were even though he doesn't agree with the cause he appreciates what the troops are doing. He stated he didn't know whether he was a Democrat or a Republican and questions whether or not the government would interfere in the Tattoo Industry.
Richie's advice to someone who is thinking of getting their first tattoo is to choose an artist wisely, look at their portfolio and work. Look for crisp lines, solid colors and design. Ask questions; it's important to be comfortable and confident with your artist.
Where would Richie like to be in ten years? Owning his own shop, 12 kids, living in a mansion and owning a yacht.
What do we think? We think he just might get there.
