Tawny Cox is a singer/songwriter currently located in Nashvile, TN. Tawny is originally from Miami, Florida, where she attended the University of Miami's Jazz vocal program for a year. She has been in Nashville since she graduated from Belmont University in 2003. Tawny grew up with a dad who had 6 guitars laying around the house at any time. She started with learning to play piano on their old antique upright and picked up the guitar later in high school when she and a couple friends started a band that started with cover songs until they developed their own originals to play out at local clubs and coffee shops.
Currently pursuing her career in music, she has just released her first full-length album. This album demonstrates the different styles and genres Tawny is experimenting with but ties all of the songs together with her melodies and disticnt vocal quality. She is influenced by her love and appreciation for anything British and Scandanavian (Mew, Beatles, Radiohead, Feist) but is also highly imprinted by her training in jazz voice from her time spent at the University of Miami. Her appreciation of American roots music and songwriting has also left a mark in her sound. Writers such as Nick Drake, Elliot Smith and Joni Mitchell definitely impact her songwriting style. Though she is influenced by these individuals, she retains a quality to her writing that is distinctly her own. We hope to see good things from this artist as she continues to grow and develop her style and own musical sound. We hope you enjoy what you hear!!!
