Cafes in London/Brighton
Flat White.
it's a little bit sad to only have one cafe worthy of a mention. I'm always keen to hear of others doing consistently exceptional coffee
I'm keen to try Burgil Coffee, which has a cafe in Hackney but have yet to make it...I've heard Sacred do some nice coffee too...
We started up in March of 2006 in Western London, as a reaction to all the bad coffee out there.
As baristas we are the end of the line for a seed that has been carefully grown, harvested, processed, transported, and roasted. Thousands of people from around the world have worked to get the coffee to us in the best condition possible and so we are responsible for making sure you get the most from it.
We use the best coffee available which is always ethically sourced and our aim is to make it so good that you can't drink coffee from anyone else... ;)
We can be found inside Travelbag at 130 Queens Road Brighton, half way between the train station & the beach, near the clock tower.
Or in Richmond... Inside Source, next to Costa coffee, about 40 metres to the left of the train station.
Have a look at our videeo to see what we do...and check out www.taylor-st.com
It really does confuse me how in this age of information how people still fail to even attempt to get something right. In the mean Streets of Hereford there are two Coffee carts, 100 yards from each other and both in sight of Starbucks. Starbucks had its share of over-made up pink skirt wearing skinny-soy-decaf-mocha-choca-latte (not too hot) drinkers, but only a few. The first cart advertised equally cringeworthy beverages, so we decided to give their bean-to-cup expertise a try. We ordered a double macchiato each, the idea being that if the coffee was disgusting there would not be half a litre of the shit to force down, and a dash of milk would dull slightly the taste bud ruining flavours of over extracted 'espresso'. We sat down and looked into the 'fair trade paper takeaway' cup to see something that resembled the remainder of someones skinny cap' bought at least an hour ago. It tasted about the same, although at least the skinny cap' may have once been passable. My (selina) cup started leaking and that was the last straw, I walked up to the girl at the counter and with my nicest smile informed her that the coffee was undrinkable and really tasted nothing like espresso. The girl turned to her colleague and said "the lady doesn't like her coffee, I only made it how I was shown" The colleague informed me confidently that - "an exspresso doesn't actually have any milk in it..." You can probably guess the rest, we retrieved our wasted pennies and swanned over to coffee cart number two. Whereas cart 1 sacrifices quality for service, it seems cart two prefered to at least try to make good coffee at the expense of good service. If you are going to ask me a question, at least have the courtesy to listen to the answer before scooping half a pound of burned milk froth (not foam) onto a relatively passable double espresso.
Hey ho and away we go. So after a while bumming around in France we decided to head east to Ceret, a cool little mountain town on the French/Spanish border. Stayed for 6 days, two of which were sunny (the rest being torrential), great little place full of hippies and rich people (that's some fruity tobacco you've got there mister..)! Then on down to San Pere Pescador, which was on first sighting a complete hole, but as we neared the sea it became clear that this was definitely a place to catch some rays. (still no good coffee..) Headed south to a dirty little place north of Barcelona full of gypsies and wierdos for one night then on to Barcelona!! Stayed in Sitges, a lovely little microclimate south of Barcelona. Woke up with no money and flew back to England. Still no good coffee.. On arriving in England, spent 5 days mashing it up in Brighton before retreating to Tenbury Wells, a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere - still no good coff.. wait - what's this I spy in the tiny family run supermarket... Union coffee?? Oh rapture oh joy! After all that time noodling around in France and spain, all we needed to do was come to Tenbury!! ....aaaah smooth Mexican tasty times. After a few days in Tenbury it was time to get to Hereford to find work before going to Thailand. Yeah right! No jobs, no houses, no f***ing good coffee!! Which brings me to my point....
We're in France, You are not, We'd be smug if it was hot, With a short black, mocha, cappuccino too, No espresso's really poo!! (sing to nic-nac paddywack)
I need a double espresso! from Selina :( :(
Post us nice coffee and we'll cuddle everyone we meet called Andrew for the rest of the year....xxx
