Influences

My musical influences started at a very early age and continue to grow. My writing has been influenced by such greats as; Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Bob Marley, Dottie Brown(mother), Stevie Wonder, Taj Mahal, Gavin Christopher, The Band, Justin Hines, Burning Spear, Third World Band, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Sylvester Stone, The Delfonics, Holland & Dozier, Smoky Robinson, Al Green, Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye, Tower of Power, Beres Hammonds, Sting, Maxwell, Andy Bey...so many artists have touched my heart I can't list them all.

The largest influence on my music and performance has been my spiritual growth and understanding the power of love. It's made me a more complete, patient and devoted person.

Sounds Like

My music is a combination of all the styles of music I have ever heard or experienced. I don't draw lines at styles of music, I just make an effort to create and perform quality music. I have been more influenced by time than I have by anyone or any group of artists because music changes with time .

I sound like Tony Brown.

Back ways in time not so far I was honored to have two legendary Jamaican musicians perform with me and my band. At the time both these brothers and I  were working with Justin Hinds. I was playing guitar, doing some road management and booking some shows, as well as, doing some recording. After Justin's date were over I asked George "Deadly Headley" Bennette and Vin Gordon, if they would like to go out for a few shows with me and my band around the mid-west. They made my music sound like it came straight from heaven. recently I have reconnected with Vin Gordon and hopefully we will do some work in the near future. "BUT" for those of you who don't know who Vin Gordan is I want to send you to his page on MYSPACE!!!

Barrington
Castillo Places Third!
In the September Celebrations Patriotic Song Competition, Winners Announced

September Celebrations 2009 is on its way as on August 15th, the House of Culture was buzzing with hundreds of attendees gathered for a night of fun and excitement at the Patriotic & Carnival Song Competition. Barrington Castillo of La Isla Bonita, San Pedro, captured third place with $1,000.00 and a trophy for his song “Shout Belize”.
In total, there were 17 submissions for the Patriotic Song and 11 submissions for the Carnival Song from which seven semi-finalists from each category were selected. The competition was open to Belizean nationals living at home and abroad. The Patriotic Songs had to be new original pieces with less than five minutes duration and included lyrics that would instill patriotism and a sense of national pride. The songs had to be focused on the history of St. George’s Caye and/or Belize’s Independence.
Bea Armstrong, Alexander Evans and Herchel Armstrong of Belize City, wowed the audience with “Belize – We are Free”, which garnered them 1st place in the Patriotic Song Competition. Their prize package included $3,000.00 and a trophy. Second place winner Nello Player (Kernel Parks), also of Belize City, was awarded with $2,000.00 plus a trophy for his song “Take Me Back to Belize” and Barrington Castillo of La Isla Bonita, San Pedro, captured third place with $1,000.00 and a trophy for his song “Shout Belize”.
Of course, what would September Celebrations be without Carnival Songs to set off the “bramming session.”

Biography

24 July 1934, Durant, Mississippi, USA,
d. 15 February 1987. This versatile singer first came to prominence in 1963
with the self-penned "How Can I Forget?" which was covered at the
same time by Ben E. King. Holiday later joined the Minit label where he made
several excellent recordings, ranging from the "Memphis"-influenced
R&B of "You Won't Get Away" to the urban soul of "I'm Gonna
Move To The City". His biggest hit on Minit was "Baby I Love
You" (1966), a bigger hit for Little Milton in 1970. Holiday also recorded
with former Raelette Clydie King, and later pursued a career as a songwriter on
his departure from the label. A partnership with Randy Myers and Jackie
DeShannon produced several excellent compositions, including the much-covered "Put
A Little Love In Your Heart", recorded successfully in 1989 by Al Green
and Annie Lennox. Holiday died of heart failure in 1987.

I was looking for older cover songs to record, one song "JUMPED" out at me and it wouldn't leave me alone...I couldn't figure it out, because I didn't really have a draw or attraction to Jackie DeShannon for any particular reason but her hit song kept coming back to me like it was attached to a bunggy chord or something. Recently I was studying some history from around where I grew up because of my families intense involvement with the black communities and the entertainment industry around that area and I found this book and then I found this man and his song,"Put A Little Love In Your Heart.!" "WHEW! it blew me away, that was the song that was haunting me and wouldn't leave me alone...weird huh? Maybe not until you check this photo and information. This is a person I probably met as a young boy but never really got to know. But he didn’t live to far away from where I grew up. And he’s one of those forgotten souls, who did something that very few people even know about.  Anyway here's some information.

Composer Jimmy E. Holiday (whose real name was Jame Brown) was known for “All I Ever Need Is Your Love,” and “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.”  He also collaborated in writing songs with Ray Charles and Eddie Reeves. Holiday

It saddens my heart to have to say good-bye to my long time brother, friend, buddy and comrade Aswah Luther Gregory. He passed in Louisiana on Monday August 3, 2009. His smiling face and voice will be missed. He is one of the US based/ mid-west based REGGAE pioneers. He was on there on the road before most regional REGGAE Bands even knew about REGGAE music. He served the United States in the Vietnam War and helped build the REGGAE community in Chicago. Unfortunately at the end the Chicago REGGAE scene did not give him the respect of his life's work and he was forced to return to his family home in Louisiana. JAH hold my brother in your arms and give him rest, for he worked endless and hard while he was with us here upon this earth.

Bent on forever, as forever is until it is. The blessing of love is never sent or given it is exuded from the depths of your forever until your forever. Leave the sounds of words alone and embrace the meanings, love, silence within your heart, your breath and your daily workings. You are my hope, just in being within love. I stand three seconds from heaven and inches away from obtaining excellence continual and eternal. Your eyes looking at me is union, your hands willing to extend are fulfill

ment, walking side by side is strenghth and hope. Bent on this forever, as forever begins now until.
