I started music at age 7; being forced into piano; I didn't quite know what I was getting myself into. After completing years of the RCM program at age 12, it just wasn't cutting it for me, so I took up guitar lessons as a side project. I was also taking percussion and fooling around on the drum set in the school band. I ended up completing up to grade 7 of the RCM program, but it was during this period I started to realise my passion for music.
When I started high school I got some friends together and formed my first band Knotic, but there was one problem, we had no singer. I decided I would give it a try and started singing at the age of 14. It was around this time that I started writing music for the first time. Through all the different bands, I've played all sorts of styles of music, but my solo project was always my first passion.
In the eleventh grade, I had to leave one of my main bands, The Sarin Affair due to creative differences. This provided me with the time to embrace my solo project. I started by doing solo acoustic shows at Boogie's Diner a few times. I began writing more songs and really invested my time and effort into making my dream a reality. This past October, I was booked at the Ellice theatre and decided, two weeks before the show, that I wanted a full band for my music. I called up my very talented and good friends Andrew Olver and Paul DeGurse who decided to help out. We have been playing numerous cafes and bars around the city every since.
In January 2009, my song "Now Boarding Flight 586 to Winnipeg" was the Manitoba winning entry into the Canadian Radio Star National Songwriting Competition. This has been, without a doubt, the highlight of my music career! Huge thanks to HOT 103 FM for providing me with the incredible opportunity to attend the Canadian Music Week Conference and Festival in Toronto.
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, enjoy travelling with my family and spending summers in the back yard. I will be graduating high school in June 2009 and plan on attending university in the fall.
Taylor Demetrioff is one of Winnipeg's newest young singer/songwriters. Drawing upon a wide array of influences, such as City & Colour and The Dudes, Taylor's music is an eclectic mix of folk, alternative rock, and pop. Having played gigs for the last year and a half around Winnipeg, and recently picked up a band full of up-and-coming Winnipeg talent, Taylor has been slowly gathering an enthusiastic fan base around the city . His lyrics are catchy, his energy is infectious, and his live shows are pretty much the best way to spend an evening. Keep an eye on Taylor Demetrioff.
